Wink Heat gun and cleaning tricks....

Having had a few minor and one major crash, what we found for removing scratches was the following;

(Try this technique on an old piece of plastic first, we did it three times before we discovered the right method.)

1. Sand back using 400, 800 and finally 1200 grit paper.
2. Fill up a large tub with cold water
3. Heat up the plastic slowly and carefully with a heat gun until the plastic goes glossy. (Helps to have two people to do this.)
4. Quench the plastic quickly in the cold water.

If you do not quench it in cold water, the plastic will cool slowly and go dull / matt finish.

Finally, before you go for a ride, coat your bike in tyre shine (Not the seat though, too slippery). When you get home and wash the bike off, the mud will disappear easily.

Cheers

For the areas that bend and turn a little whiteish you can use a heat gun i use it on bent interior trim in my body shop. Works like a charm. Used it on my quad and worked pretty good too.

Yep, its a great tip, worked pretty good for me. My fenders were all creased up from squeezing between trees, and most of the crease marks are gone now after going over them with a heat gun.

Yep, ive even tried using the small plumbers propane torches outside, doesnt work, the slightest wind blows em out like nothing, gets me more frustrated to keep it lit than anything. Wouldnt want to take the oxy/acetylene torch to it, would make a awful mess of things.

Mothers Back to Black works great. I bought my 07 350 irs grizzly new about a month and a half ago. When i got it, the red plastics had faded to a pinkish color. I put a couple coats of the back to black on it and now she looks almost new. And it acts like a coat of wax so the mud just beads up and rolls off.

It's a draw partner I use the SC-1 because it's a man thing, but the pledge works as good just don't have the right kind of smell.
