I just bought the Kolpin Jr fuel pack and installed it last night. Many have said that it has a weak mount and breaks off, but the new ones might be fixed. Tractor Supply Co (TSC) had two on hand and I opened each one to inspect them. One had a slick 90 degree mounting plate and the other one (newer date one box) had the same mount but with added support. See pictures below.
The power steering doesn't work very well when you're pushing it!
I've not run out of gas, but have had to hit reserve on other bikes before. I have a front cargo box that holds two small gas cans and a little extra space besides. I don't usually have it mounted. I like to keep the front clear as possible. Depends on the ride/situation.
No need for it! I don't see the need to carry that little amount of fuel.
My setup I now use for H&M riding will carry 5 gallons. And I usually end up using it all.
BTW. good luck with your fuel pack. I had one and it's laying somewhere at the bottom of the mountain along Browning Fork, WV. Bout mine from TSC as well.

I was thinking about getting a couple and mounting them like you did. Quad mag just did a test on the "new" one and it got 2 out of 5. There are plastic parts where the bracket connects to the jerry that breaks. I ride hard so I'll pass on these for now. Let us know after half dozen rides

I'll let everyone know the day it fails - LOL. So far, I have banged it all around many trails and jumped over medium berms. It has many scratches, some deep, from many trees and branches.
I was thinking about getting one of these for this next summers rides....
how good is the ventilation for these things? A lot of bouncin around with a fuel tank isn't good as far as pressure buildup.
i filled mine right full, air expands more than liquid when heated, but you still need to leave some space, I wasn't all that impressed with the way the lid/spout seals, no rubber, just plastic on plastic and wasn't all that smooth of a sealing surface, had to crank the lid on preaty tight to get it to seal
Just an update. I put the older style Kolpin Jr. fuel pack on my quad back in August with the new bracket (see pics above). It has not leaked (since it has the older style cap) and the mount has not failed (it probably will tomorrow due to this post).
I have used it several times for others on the trail who ran out of gas. We got lost once even with a GPS (all those criss crossed lines looked the same
) and almost needed the fuel. I wasn't even worried since I knew I had the the fuel pack.
We have just purchases the larger 4 gallon fuel packs from Kolpin and one 4 gallon water pack. We plan on taking these with us on our longer rides in Utah next month. I have the replacement caps for them so they won't leak (ditching the auto venting crappy ones that leak).
I'll post pics after the packs arrive (ordered from Walmart) and are mounted.
I have the auto-venting cap on mine and is is yet to leak but I've only used it for one weekend. Now it's collecting dust in the corner of the garage. Did you get the mounting tabs for them twister?
Not sure about the 700 but on a 660 they fit perfect on the front rack and the extra weight really helps out for climbing hills. But I instantly got rid of the little velcro straps and went with a regular rachet strap witht he tail of the strap cut off so I don't have to deal with it.

We ordered them, but they aren't in yet. I didn't order the mounts yet. I want to see how well they do without the mounts. I may order the mounts for the fuel packs and just velcro the single water pack. I am just not sure yet. I don't like the idea of velcro holding my $$ gas cans even if it is strong velcro.
The new kolpin brackets with the added support must really work. My quad was recently barrel rolled down a very steep hill which bent the steering stem and a few other things to include the Kolpin mount. This mount did not break and is nearly impossible to bend back (without tools). It really held up to the punishment so I don't think that everyday riding will break it. This mount had 9 months or riding on it before this roll, so it wasn't new.
Here is a pic of the mount next to the replacement mount.
I've seen stuff like floorpans for cars, and skid plates for trucks bead rolled across the middle like that, only on flat pieces. It's amazing how much that stregthens things up. Sounds like you have proved that Twister, glad it's doing good.
