I called Warn today to ask some questions about installing a winch and told the guy about a deal I found on a yamaha model warn.
He told me (and I don't know if it is true, that is why I am asking here) that the yamaha version does not have the same brake system that the Warn rt25 has. He said that the rt25 has a new disk brake system that will not slip. He said that the yamaha version did not have this.

He also said that the yamaha version is sealed, but not like the rt25.

Does anyone know if this is true? I am sure that yamaha version is awesome, but I thought it was exactly like the rt25.

There is a reason they sell the Yamaha branded Warn for $69. I think you may have discovered some of the reasons. Yamaha is not into giving away money, nor is Warn. Sure it makes the quad buyer feel good knowing he got a Warn for $69 when he bought his quad, but it is not Warn's best product. I am not saying they are junk by any means, but corners have been cut. I don't think it is of the same quality of the RT or XT winches.

Just my opinion,
Brent

If I remember correctly, the Yamaha Warn also has plastic gears, or I seem to remember reading that somewhere. I still think it was $69 well spent, because I haven't had any problems with the 2 I have on my Grizzlies.

I hope so. The only problem with their response is the part where they say "selling A VERSION of the RT25". That could mean anything. The guy on the phone did not go into any great specifics, but he said they build it the way yamaha wants it. It can't be bad, it's a warn, but I was suprised to hear him say they were different.

The 2008 Yamaha Warn winches must be different from the 2007 models. The 2007 Yamaha version didn't look anything like the RT/XT. Post a picture of the new Yamaha. I'd like to see one. I haven't seen one that looked like the RT/XT. Picture is an XT30

That's the same Yamaha Warn that I have on my '07 Griz, so it must have come out part-way into '07 model year. Mine looks just like an RT.

Maybe my dealer just hooked me up, but I bought my wheeler on Dec.31,2007...just in time to get the $69 winch and 18 mo. warranty deal, and my winch is an RT25, doesn't say Yamaha on it anywhere.

I got my '08 grizzly in Dec. with the Yamaha Warn 25. printed right on the winch for yamaha and the mouting plate up front. Yaahh I had some questions as to the $69 price for a real Warn Winch but it has work OK from the test pulls I did.
However should I ever really get into a serious trail bobo I'm hopping it will function to it's limits. Beyond! I ment to say BEYOND it's limits, were ever they may be.

What kindof mount is that??
It looks pretty sweet!!
Do you worry about it getting damaged if you run into anything?

I have the crappy older yami warn $69 2500 winch.... (got my griz in Oct 06) The free spool stopped working on ride 2... It's locked up a few times... and now I can't even run it in or out... I've wanted an XT for a while now... Guess it's finally time to order it...

Mount is by Montana Jacks. So far no problem with damaging anything. It's up there so much higher than standard mount that you very seldom ever hit anything and if you do there's a small bash plate ahead of the winch. That's one the main reasons I bought the mount.

The only problem is the guys I ride with are worried about me hitting them or their rides.

I tried to buy a 69 dollar winch after i bought my grizzly [they were not running that deal when i bought] my dealer said that the winch is sold to them at normal price and yamaha refunds for the ones they sell for 69 so i would think that they are not a down graded version just a 69 dollar sells promo
