I have a viper from ebay, not the same thing as a warn, but it's worth the money...you can buy 3 vipers for the price of 1 warn. Also get yourself a synthetic winch cable...best investment IMO, you don't need gloves or have to worry about hte metal wire...

What are you going to use the winch for, for lifting a plow, light or heavy duty pulling, use it often or just in when you have too? If so, go with atleast a 2500 lb. When I bought my 08 700, I went with a warn 2.5RT because the dealer had it in stock and gave me a good deal. And I know the warn is a good winch. The viper is good too, just ask Muckboy. He's the Viper expert. And go with metal gears and sealed (waterproof) motor. Good luck on picking the right one.

I mainly just want it to use if I have to. We usually just use straps to pull em out but it would be nice to have a winch if I go riding by myself.

Viper and Warn winches are going to be your best bet. If u only plan on using it to pull your buddies out (as the Grizzly rarely needs to be pulled out) then going with a 2500 will be good enough. The comments above are both right on the money.

IF you are handy then I would suggest getting it and putting it on yourself. It"s not that hard to do and it get's you more familiar with your new Grizz and that is always a good thing.

How it breaks down is that the WARN is the Caddy of the winch world and Viper is more like a solid & reliable pickup truck.
THe WARN costs more but has a few more bells & wistles and is made well. You can get 2+ Vipers for the cost of a comparable WARN and still be able to count on it when things get ugly.

Good thing is that if you are a Grizzly Central Member, you get a discount on the Viper. You can pick up a 2500 with synch cord, delivered for $210, with the GC Discount. Add 10-15% without it.

As you will be doing more of pulling your buddies out of the mud instead of yourself, you may want to look around in here. THere are plenty of threads about mounts which allow u to switch the winch from front to back within 2 minutes. There are self reeling tow rope systems (TigerTail) and multiple other ideas which may interest you.

Stick around and look around. This is a GREAT site for us Grizz owners!
Best of luck to you

I have only had experience with Warn, but I started with a 2500RT, then it failed when I burried my Grizz in quicksand to the fenders. took the 2500 off and sent it to Warn complaining, and they sent back a 3000RT and apologized for the trouble. In my experience it is hard to find a company that stands behind their product this well!

Just my .02c! :)

My old winch was a 2500 installed from the factory. six months into using it it failed, sent it out and had to pay $80.00 six months later went again. This time dealer sent it out and said it would cost $ 160.00. Went in the trash. Bought a Extreme have had it six months and have had no problems. like the man said can but three for the cost of one Warn. (E Bay)

Oh.....and make sure you keep the solenoid OUT of the water....
Yes, you may have a winch mount with a nice cozy spot on the back of it just for the solenoid....DON'T DO IT!

Run it elsewhere....I hid mine under the hood....was a really tight squeeze, but it works.
I have seen too many solenoids crap out because of it....better safe than sorry.
