350 recon 450 grizz and a 700 AC

Other than the engine size differences we're all running stock everything even down to the tires. I was wondering how my 450 grizz will stack up against the 700 AC in some mud. I know I don't stand a chance in speed against it, but I was wondering if the grizzly being a little smaller and lighter would help to overcome the displacement difference in the mud. As for the 350 recon I'm not as worried about out doing it in the mud since it's a pretty small bike.. But even in the end if the grizz doesn't come out on top we're all just out there to have fun. Even if I want to come out of the mud first

You'll have em beat.
The ranchers have alot of power, but in 4wd they can get pretty gutless
Dont know about the arctic cats. they got a lot of power but they dont seem very reliable

It really all depends on what kind of mud you are running and some individual rider skill but for the most part I hate to tell you but you really don't stand a chance against the 700 AC. The AC is heavier and can get the tires turning faster. If he gets traction he will go through mud pretty easy. Your bike is more narrow (between the tires) and lighter. The mud will probably hold you up a little more than the AC 700. You also have to look at ground clearance. You will rub bottom before he does.

No...there is no replacement for displacement!

That is the same way the AC 700 feels about your bike. You should do better than the honda because you have a better 4x4 system. The best he can do is 3 wheel drive.

That is truly what it is all about. Just have fun and never let your buddy take pictures of you being winched out. With no proof it is your story so you can tell it like you want to.

Unhappy =[

I figured since the ac was a heavier/taller bike that it'd easily go through the mud. I just hope my 450 doesn't get punished too badly

You should do fine. It all depends on if you get hung up because of ground clearance. That is a big reason folks add larger tires. It also depends on what kind of mud you will be in...peanut butter, pudding, soupy, etc. Are there deep ruts in these mud holes? If so, you may rub your frame and get hung up. Large mud holes with flat bottoms?..you will do fine. Too many variables but bike for bike the AC 700 will have you beat because he has more power.

Only one way to find out...report back to us when you get done. Have fun!

You want to beat that AC 700...go in deep water. Cats don't like water.

The grizzly ended up doing fine but the AC has an ignition issue so that it cut off several times not to mention the hour long find the problem thing we did. But other than that the ride was fun.

Sadly we had no camera with us this ride. It turned out to be a night ride 80% of the time. My earlier post was at a friends house so I couldn't say everything I wanted to say. The tires on the stock AC suck badly IMO. The AC had to use 4 wheel drive almost everytime we started to get in some of the deeper mud while a little throttle control in 2 wheel drive with the grizzly did fine. And since my friend didn't want to ride his 350 he used his uncles 500 foreman(which my grizzly outran) I was very pleased with the handling compared to the bigger quads since they had to keep backing up to make it around some of the tight corners where I pulled through without a problem. But we're planning on going riding again and since my friends wife got a new digital camera we'll make sure to snap some pictures. P.S. we found the AC ignition problem it had an electrical short under the instrument pod to the key switch. We took off the connector and it had a burnt terminal. You could actually see where the connector had started to melt because of the heat. Kind of scary to think that thing could catch fire while we're a few miles away from home in the woods.

THe 4WD on a grizzly is worlds better than the rancher...but..... my 350 rancher does better in snow than my 600 grizzly. I dont know why, maybe the weight difference ?
