Plastic Rivets Stink

Is there something better on the market to replace the stock plastic panel rivets? Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Using a phillips screw driver to unscrew the center portion to release it. Most of the time it just spins and spins and spins. Thanks

Sometimes you need to hold the out side pice while you turn it.

Look on eBay for 8mm buttons for Suzuki.
They are a much better design than those screw in/out ones.

But to answer your question, the outside portion DOES spin separately than the inner portion, so if it's not, use pliers or something to hold the outer ring while you unscrew the inner.

Try using a thin flat head screw driver to pry up on the inside piece while you are turning it with the phillips.

Thats what I ended up doing. Had to find my screwdriver after I threw it after other failed attempts.

The plastic and the rivots will not be easy to work with if the plastic is cold. Becareful you dont bend one those plastic rivots.

if you can reach the other side of the rivet,, push up on the bottom while you turn the top with the screw driver.

After paying over 2 bucks for ONE at a dealer, I checked out Checker and Auto Zone. Found some plastic rivets two different sizes and they fit nice and tight. Only 4.99 for ten of them.

I will have to agree with Muck on this one. The Suzuki rivets work great. My local Yamaha Mechanic turned me on to them. They use them in their shop.

I got a whole slew of replacements for my sportbike ,grizz, truck. A place in California called "The Fastener Warehouse" sells them dirt cheap, something like $12 per 50 for the ones on my VFR, Honda wants like $5.00 ea for them.

Was looking for an answer on another thread. I forgot you were the one who told me the Suzuki ones were the way to go. What size(s) works for the Grizz? Thanks!

Definitely head to a autoparts store. They are way cheaper there. Way cheaper.

The zuki ones are nice, but a bit too big. Though it gives a wicked tight fit.

They are the same all over the grizz, except the 2 little ones that hold the gas tank/air box cover on. The two at the front are smaller.

Those look like the push type and not the screw in type. I may go down and check them out and see if they would work. I would not bolt them in because then you lose your flexibility and crack plastic instead of having it break free.
