Power Commander ? Please Help!

Im new to the forum, but ive been reading as a non member and i know alot of you guys know what yall talkin about... So heres my story.. got a 07 700 grizz, hmf utilty, k&n, epi clutch, dynatech cdi, 27" itp xtrs on 14s, Notice i didnt say any fi controller.. its because the hmf optimizer i bout was a peice of **** every since i put it on my bike, eventually stopped working. Since day one when i installed the omptimizer i had problems with it, multiple calls to hmf with them saying ground to frame and then back but anyway hmf discouraged me.. bad. Heres the question, how is the pcIII usb? Ive heard you got to put a o2 senser in the head pipe, is this neccessary? Also hard to tune? Any of you guys got some good reviews about it? Pile as much info on me as you would like... i just got to get my grizz running again

the pc5 with the auto tune option is the 1 u have to install a o2 sensor. the pcIII doesn`t have that option. if your going to go that far you might want to look in to the vdi unit.

Ok i got my info mixed around.. Ive been looking at so many fi controllers, i was interested in the pcIII usb, Should that be a suitable controller getting a 'fine tune' at your home? I know to get the best tune for your bike you would have to get it pro done, but as far as getting a good, no miss smooth power output should the pcIII be a good choice as i plan to do future mods such as a cam, port polish, maybe stroked? Anyone have a 700 with it with good results? Getting ready for mud nationals, I got to make a choice on a fi controller fast so i can get it tuned in properly before mud nats!!

I went with the PC5, with auto tune. I have heard others state the VDI gives better performance (fine tune the timing and fuel).

I am still tuning mine, as I have discoved an exhaust leak messing with the o2 sensor.

I hardly take the atv off the farm, and never plan to race it.
The ony change on the PC5 for the grizzly is switching 2 wires on the TPS plug.

My wife has a stock 700 and going up a hill (from dead stop) on both mine and hers they lag around 34 mph (runs rich)(about 4500rpm) once cresting the hill they continue to climb speed.

I have mine tuned now so the lag is not present.

With the PC3 you will need it tuned professionally - with each change back to the tuning center again (cam, stroke, etc...)

Maybe too late for you but the HMF optimizer does work well, it comes with a little learning curve though. It won't start up until the ATV is started. Also keep it dry.

Not sure what trouble you had with it, but I noticed even with a stage 3 cam I kept the full throttle setting around 1 or 1.5

If you go with the PC3, and need assistance tuning I can send a photo of my map file (once I get mine tuned in right).

I have an 07 as well so the computer should be the same.

My map is going to be for a stage 3 cam, 734cc motor, and swamp series exhaust.

You will be able to see the numbers on my map and just reduce them all a little for your bike - that should be a real close ball park for you to start.

(I know each bike is different but just trying to offer some assistance to you)

The problems with the optimizer I had was it would run fine for 5-10 min then no matter what speed i was going it would choke itself out? Eventually my bike wouldnt even start, had it in the shop for 3 months and they couldnt figure out what was wrong with it, the only electrical mods i have was the hmf optmizer and a dynatech cdi, took them both off and the bike started first crank, the shop owner said it had to be the optimzer as my bike was getting fire. Any thoughts here would help too.

I have had my optimizer for almost 2 years now. I have never had an issue with it. As a matter of fact, the factor settings worked great on my grizzly. I never had to tune anything...it was already done! Sorry to hear you had issues with the optimizer.

I have the best luck... today i put my dynatech cdi back on (bike was stock) and i cranked my bike before i installed it. Got finished installing it, turn key on, start button, NOTHING. Called dynatech, talked to Larry and he said hes stumped. Took the cdi back off and he said he will be at mud nationals with one waiting for me. I hope i dont get screwed running on peoples words.....

Have the PC3 on mine and just a map from there site and runs well. Would probably get more out of it if was dyno tuned but think be getting the VDI as be better for future mods(BBK, Cam, Stroker, Head work)

When I needed a custom map for my PCIII I called the guys at Team Rocket Factory. Just tell them your mods and they will email you a map for $20. Worked good for me.
