2009 Grizzly 550 EPS FI ER-1 CODE

My new 2009 EPS 550 stalled and then would turn over but would not stay running. The display read ER-1 I dis-connected the battery and re-connected then it started right up with no error code. Everything seams fine, does anyone know what the ER-1 code means?

Er-1, ECU internal malfuntion (output signal error). No signal recieved from ECU. Sounds like you did the right thing to correct the problem. Make sure battery is fully charged, connections are tight, and you keep it on a "Battery Tender" when stored. If it keeps happening I would have the dealer check it out. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply, The ATV is only 1-month old and the battery bolt on the positive does seam to be stripped. The aluminum nut doesn't grab the bolt anymore. Can I use stainless steel?

That is a special type of contained nut. I would swing by a battery shop and pick up one. They'll probably just give you one. You would have problems keeping a standard type nut from turning while you tighten the screw.

I am having the same code read out. but mine will not start without haveing to be jumped and then it will only run for 15 mins or so and it will die. and then you need to jump it again. what does the code mean and how do i fix it?

How old is your battery. Mine had the same problem on Sunday. Mine was also throwing code 46....means low power output. Got a Deka battery coming this week to solve the problem.

I'm having the same Error 1 code. I went to hop on the Grizz this evening and the key had been left on for a few days. Apparently I left it on, it is dead, really dead. I tried to put a 1.5 amp trickle charger on it, but after a few minutes it goes to trouble mode. So I went and bought a jump box and jumped it. The Grizzly started and I rode it for a few minutes, but won't start back without a jump.

Er 1 flashes briefly on the left of the screen. I think my battery is toast. It has 13 hrs on it too.

If you want any chance of saving the battery at all you need a battery charger. Jumping it to get the atv running, then using the atv stator is not going to work on a battery that low. You may also burn out your stator doing that as that's too big of a load on it (That's why your trickle charger would not charge it).
If a battery charger can not bring it back to life, then it's toast. Bite the bullet and buy a new battery.

Update from my last post. I went and got a new battery, Grizz works just fine. No more Er1 code.

I'll be taking the key out when I get done with it from now on. $100 mistake that I don't want to happen again.
