New Lights

Hey guys,

I just installed my new Sylvania SilverStar (9003 HB2) headlights yesterday. After reading some threads on here I decided to spend the extra money and do it. WOW its crazy how much a difference they make. Anyway while installing them i noticed a difference;

New ones
  • 12.8v 55W
Old Ones
  • 12v 35W
my question is with having the higher V and W will they heat up to much or blow any fuses or add to any other complications?

Thanks for your insight

The higher V is good means the lamp can handel a higher voltage. and the 55 watt should be fine alot of the guys are running them.

Just wondering if anyone else has installed these bulbs in thier 09' 550? I let mine run last night for about 10 min and they got hot, not sure if this is the norm or not, I just don't want to melt or burn anything.

Thanks again!

Walmart only carrys the Silverstar. If you are going to upgrade, go to the Silverstar Ultras. You can get the ultras at Western Auto, Advance Auto or other auto parts stores.

I got my Silverstar Ultras on EBAY. About 1/2 the price in the local stores.

A 55w lamp will draw 4.58 amps at 12 volts. A 35w will draw 2.91 at 12 volts. 1.6 amps more than stock. As voltage increases the amperage decreases.

I'm running these on my 700, and have had no heat issues. Yes they are warmer than the stock bulbs, but not enough to melt the lens. I am glad I switched mine out. I also added a set of hella driving lights to light up the night.

Jfer how long have you been using the silverstar ultra's. And no heat issues. And do they have a blue tint to them. I'm torn between those and the PIAA's

I have been running them for about 10 months. No heat issues, and no blue tint. I have pics in my garage. They are not the best pics, but will give you an idea of how they look lit.
