Hey everyone first time on here awsome site. well now to the point
I just went out for a ride tonight on my 07 griz 700 and as i was coming down a hill my power steering went out of control left to right at a wicked pace and it took all i had to keep myself on the machine. Never had this happen before but it happend twice tonight. Anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be. I checked for the obvious sticks, rocks, mud ect.... but could not see anything and i did not go through any deep water???? any sugestions would be great thanx alot.
hit the dirt!

Welcome to GC by the way. Never heard of anything similar. I want to know what's up with this though... The EPS can't cause those problems, it's work's or you have standard steering, nothing in between to my knowledge. You are positive you are not riding a Honda?

I am a millwright by trade and i know mechanical and this is deff a electrical prob but worries me when it almost tossed me off the machine doing 70 km/h (i am canadian B.C) I ride alot of high altitiude 5000 ft + but i don't think that should have anything to do with it.

Maybe try unplugging the eps unit and running it without the eps to see if that is what's happening. It may be shutting off and on real fast causing a shuttering feeling, check electrical connections, etc. I can't see altitude having anything to do with it either. Did you call the dealer to see if they ever heard of this problem?

I would take a look at the EPS torque sensor... that's the only thing on the EPS itself that I can think of that would cause those symptoms...

It is my understanding that the EPS also works as a steering damper and actively corrects jolts to the steering. It may be a computer glitch (or sensor) and is trying to constantly correct jolts that are not there.
Just a thought. I agree that taking out the fuse to see if that fixes it will tell you if it is an electronic issue.

Ya i would like to try the diagnostic if you wouldn't mind sending me the procedure. I tried disconecting the eps motor from the torque sensor today but i am not sure if that would be sufficient... i would pull the fuse but i am not sure which one it is and i don't have any diagrams. just going to take a browse around here to see if i can find out.

Check your toe-in, it should be close to 0. Also check your wheel bearings and tie rod ends for play. Maybe you have a bent rim?

Ya tie rod ends were my first thought as were wheel bearings but all that seems fine and nothing is bent, but i havent really taken a look at the toe in. Also i am trying to figure out how the eps motor is connected to the steering shaft maybe something is bent or broken inside there??? once i get out of work i will have to get it into a shop
