Tranny trouble!

Just finished rebuilding the motor in a basket case '07 Grizz 400. I had the cases apart to replace the crank and must have screwed something up when re-assembling the trans. Neutral, reverse, and park function perfect, but it just will not engage into fwd gear? You can feel it almost click in but as soon and power is applied it just ratchets. I have checked the detent ball and linkage( even tried shifting with vice grips right on the end of the shift drum) . Any ideas where to start looking, I have a pretty good felling I'm splitting the cases again, but have hope maybe there is something simple I'm missing?

I realize that there is nobody interested here, but here's what I found in case someone is searching in desperation for the same trouble next time. Turns out that I accidentally install the shift sprag upside down, it is almost identical on both sides except the engagement dogs are approx 1mm wider on the forward side of the sprag. Easy enough to miss I guess?

Since I have the same Grizz, I'm interested and sure glad you completed the task and passed on the resolution. I hope I'm not in the case any time soon, but glad that you were able to get yours done.
Good job!

Diddly,

I am sure it is not that folks are not interested. It's that most of us have nothing constructive to add to your thread. I for one have never even seen or heard of another Yamaha ATV that needed the kind of work yours does.

Keep on posting your progress. Just because folks are not posting does not mean we are not reading!
