This is a discussion on advise on oil type within the Grizzly Engine & Transmission forums, part of the Grizzly Forums category; I would like to change my oil to synthetic oil on my 2006 660 griz any advise would be helpful. Thank you....
How many miles? I'm with the guys who say no don't change from dino to syn or syn to dino after running one for the engines life so far. Syn from the beginning or syn after breakin but not on a 4 yr old engine. I tried it on a older machine and it started using oil so I changed back to dino. I changed from dyno gear oil to amsoil after 3000 miles and the seals started leaking, switched back to dino and the leaks stopped.
X2 on not changing that far in to the motor's life. Learned that the hard way with a home made generator (don't ask... it WAS a 1960's era Cub Cadet lawnmower at one point). We were ice fishing for the weekend, ran the generator just fine for the first night, then decided it needed oil the night after that. The only thing we had with us was a jug of synth in my buddy's truck. After blowing ALL the oil out of the motor, we ended up blowing up the motor. Hey, the fishing was great and the whiskey was going down waaaay too fast.

I put Mobil 1 0w-40 motorcycle oil in my 04 660 last fall. I had about 600 miles on it at the time (I bought it Dec. 08 with 234 miles on it). It runs great and doesn't use oil.
I love the Amsoil Powersport 0w40. I started using it around 07, and I bought my machine new the last day of 03.
