Just make sure you use one that is designed for aluminum engines. They have special additives.
Some folks also use a "water wetter" or "engine ice" (I think it is called) in their cooling systems. It it supposed to make the engines run cooler. I run it in mine but didn't notice any difference.

I'm making an educated guess here, but usually around 220*. When I pull up and stop to talk a bit w/ the other riders temp will rise at idle, trying to shed the heat generated while riding. Mostly the fan doesn't come on.

So are water wetter and engine ice coolants or coolant additives?

Engine Ice is a coolant. It comes premixed with deionized water. You can't mix it with other coolants. Check it out at http://www.engineice.cc/

Opps . My apologizes for the bad info, I thought they were both additives.

I see from the web site that the Engine Ice coolant is only good for -27 F, I don't think that would be suitable for northern winters.

I didn't notice that. But then, down here in SE Texas we rarely see it as cold +10 F so its not a problem.

Where does one look for a coolant for aluminum engines besides your dealer (my dealer is super spendy on everything)? Being in MN, engine ice just isn't going to cut it for me. It's not too often it gets below that but it did last night. There are a few power sports accessory stores stores around, but I never looked for coolant before - never actually needed it until now so I don't know if these places have it either.
