Hi all, new to this site and just bought a 2009 grizzly 700EFI, EPS in camo! I have a warn winch, full skids, front Yamaha brush bar (U.S. version), PIAA lights, changed the headlight to silverstar H4ST bulbs, overfenders, and Yamaha's hard rear cargo box. I also replaced the stock tires with 27 inch ITP mud lite XTR's on black 14" SS rims. From what I have read here (excellent site by the way!!) am losing low end power with this tire/rim set up? I want to put a EPI clutch kit in her and narrowed it down to either the Sport Utility high elevation kit (WE395004), or the Utility high elevation kit (WE391046) and can't make my mind up! Is there a big difference between the two? I am using her for hunting at elevations up to 4,000 feet in upstate NY, no muddin, and am interested mainly in climbing power (some steep inclines on rocky logging roads) and engine braking. Also for pulling dead fall when its time for stocking up on firewood! Any suggestions? Also do I get the severe duty belt or stay with the factory belt( i heard Yamaha's is better). Lookin forward to chattin with ya'll, I'm sure this is just the beginning of a list of mods, and will post Pics as soon as I can! Thanks!

Mine is stock and i really dont see the need for a clutch kit, try it out as is, u will read ups and downs to both. U prob will be fine for your type of riding.

This is little off topic, but from what i've read XTR's don't like rocks... they have bad side walls... But i could be wrong.

I dont know the difference, and EPI doesnt post specs on thier site. I have the sport Utility clutch kit in my bike. I want more low end, so im gonna drill out the weights when im done my mods, and tune the clutch as needed. Call EPI and ask them what the difference is. If the spring is different, or if its just weights.

S.N. Did you see a big difference in low end going to the utility clutch? Just trying to get back to original factory rpm specs with the new tire set up.

Yeah, I gained from it, not as much as I would have liked, but I had the Sport Utility kit, OS tires, Low Elevation. Shoulda went high, like i did for my KQ. But I run 27" 589s. So they are heavy, but it wheelies in low no problem, but I cant find the balance point in high. Though I have not yet done any performance mods other than the clutch kit, so when I open my airbox, VDI it, and add a swamp series, i should easily find the balance point. One thing to note, with the kit I went with, I can not slip the belt. Ill bog the motor down, or have to wait for it to wind up. And the tires move intune with the kit. So I recommend it just for the belt grab. And engine breaking is rediculas. Ill clutch ever bike I own.

Hey thanx!!! S.N. do you recommend the EPI severe duty belt or to stay with the factory belt? Anyone using them? I read on a older thread that they were narrower?

OEM belt. The EPI belt, is too narrow. Its below spec, and EPI still says its fine. THe OEM belt is double cogged aswell, so I see no advantage to thier design over stock, and the fact its too narrow will make it slip. Stick with the OEM, clutch kit it, and love it. Remember no matter what kit you go with, your gonna need a internal clutch housing gasket PN: 3B4-15463-00-00, and some oil. Suck to get it all apart and have to wait for a gasket, or not be able to ride it.

Not that I know of for the grizzly. However the KQ clutch is almost identical. The clutch holders wont work with the grizz. The holes are too close, so an impact works nice. Or make a custom tool to hold the clutch. I went impact. Also the grizz primary has grease in it. KQ is dry. Other then that, it will show you how to change the secondary spring, and also how to change the wet springs.

Here is a link to the Nyroc Tech Tip for the KQ 700/750 EPI Clutch Install

Thumbs up

Hi guys, i just recently had my local shop put in an EPI with a heavy or severe duty belt, i have pulled alot of trees and really put the work to this thing, and it does great, i wish i would have done this when i first bought the quad! Both bottom and top end are faster! When i let my father ride it, he noticed right away that i had done something different to it. I am running 27 inch mudlite XTR's on ipt 14s and the clutch kit with belt helped ALOT!!! They mechanic said my stock belt had a little wear on it less than 1000 miles (i think) since new.

Hope this helps! i would say go for it, i DID
