OEM belts are alot better from what ive heard from a few different quads, most aftermarket belts arent as good.

The aftermarket belts are not worth the money. HL runs Dayco Belts, and EPI clutch Kits. Its all rebadge stuff. The dayco wont last as long, but are your best aftermarket bet. Carlisles, are generally grouped together with other machines, which commonly gives incorrect lengths. The EPI are too narrow.

Get OEM and forget it

Is blowing belts a common problem on the Grizzly; thought I had bought a reliable ATV.

In over 11,000k on my two ultramatics, I have never blown a belt. So Triple R I think you are safe. There is always a dud and always use OEM. Aftermarket are junk.

3 Grizzlies 4000 miles, 6500 miles, and 2500 miles respectfully, no issues. Oh and a Kodiak and a Breeze, the Kodiak has around 2500 miles and the Breeze not sure but my daughter rides it more than her brother and his kodiak. i will never put anything but OEM on my ATV's. I don't want to think about trying to change one on the trails in the middle of Moab.

They were junk on the King Quads. They had very poor QC. The cords instead of running straight, were going in and out of the belt. Didnt last long on the few who tried them. Cant speak for the grizz belt, but im gonna say they would be close to the same.

Is there a "rule of thumb" as to how often the belt should be replaced to prevent and untimely failure?

you should still check it from time to time... There's always those random failures... (I've had 1 on my 700)

Hebs,

How do you check it? I guess I am spoiled, I have a 1990 Mule that has the original belt on it and has never been in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance and so far the same for my 06 Rhino.

You take off the 10 or so bolts and pop the cover off... Check for frays, excessive uneven wear and/or any small rubber bits that may be sitting at the bottom of the case.

You can also take calipers, and check to see if its still in spec. But generally, if its not glazed, or chunked. Your good unless your up there in miles.
