Just got the email yesterday it's ready for sale on their website. YA-7016 fire 2016 and 2017 grizzlies and kodiaks. Anyone try one yet? I ordered one should be here soon ?
I'm not a fan of K&N filters, some have had good luck but studies I've seen on K&N have not been impressive.. I just picked up a Uni filter which seems to be on par with the OEM filter.
Waiting for Yamaha to redesign the OEM filter and housing for a real fix.
I will have one in about a week.. What I like is that it is completely sealed. Both ends are glued , and there is a
Non-porous rubber gasket where it meets the air box , instead of the foam one that has been letting dirt past. I also believe dirt gets in at the ends of the OEM one as well..
My plan , clean the air intake , use the K&N , and put the OEM filter over the top of the K&N... See what happens , and check the air intake tube again... I know a little dust gets past right now... So YA , might as well try it..:getrdone:

Pohlhammer, I would very much like to know whether you can use their "holder" and put a regular 2-stage foam filter on it. If you could disassemble it into its component parts and take a few pictures before putting it back together and putting it in your machine, I would very much appreciate that.
The ring at the front is the part that I think causes the issue, and if I can get a better one and not use K&N's actual filter, I'd be interested.
Beyond that, the K&N vs. no-K&N debate rages on ever and always on the forums. It goes something like this:
Person A: The K&N filter is far superior!
Person B: The K&N filter will destroy your engine!
Person A: Not if you follow the instructions!
Person B: The shop told me it will void my warranty if I use K&N filters!
Person C: K&N says that's not true.
Person B: Tell that to my dealer!
Person A: The K&N filter works great! I ran it for 5 years in my diesel pickup so it must be awesome for off-road vehicles.
Person D: I ran the K&N filter, followed every instruction to the letter, and found dust in my throttle body.
Person F: U dun it rong LAWL!!!1
Person E: Did you put silicone grease around the outside edge between the foam rubber gasket and the filter?
Person D: The instructions didn't say anything about doing that!
Person G: Is it worth the risk? Just run the stock paper filter.
Person C: The K&N filter saves me a ton of money because while I will happily spend $250 on a polished billet aluminum fire extinguisher mount and $600 on a pair of lighted flag whips and $1800 on a waterproof roof mounted stereo system, $1100 in gas to haul my crap to Glamis twice a year, and a crapload of money on non-ethanol gas and fuel stabilizer, I am too cheap to keep buying paper filters.
There you go, now you don't have to go read any more forum threads about K&N filters.
Edit: I am Person D, and this was written regarding the Polaris ACE, hence the mention of disposable paper filters.
Update: After looking more closely at the pictures, it looks like you cannot use the K&N holder with a stock filter on it. I am not sure if Pohlhammer's idea of putting the foam filter around it will work, it might be too large and might stretch the foam filter too much.
Their take on the ring between the holder and airbox looks nice, but I wonder about it long term because there is such a small mating surface if it does not get smashed in there good, and if it does get smashed in there good, maybe it will eventually lose its "spring" and get loose. But that's just me being cautious and pessimistic.
I think the problem with the stock foam ring is:
1. Open cell foam.
2. Dry.
3. Not smashed against the airbox wall well enough.
I'm not a K&N fan, but this might be a improvement over the factory air filter. I would prefer a good pleated paper cartridge air filter if given a choice.
At the risk of annoying K&N advocates, I'd say it's six of one, half-dozen of the other. The stock filter lets fine dust through if you don't do something about that dry foam ring up front. K&N filters are known for letting fine dust through.
So how is that an improvement? At least we can do something about that foam ring.
Why not just slip a pre filter over the k&n? Used a k&n with prefilter on my last machine. Pre filter stopped the majority of the dust from the filter.
I wonder how many people just rinse their K&N out , and stick it back in ?
Seems I have heard people say that's all you have to do......anyone else hear anything like that ever ?
I was not sure , but I just looked into it .. You DO oil K&N air filters.. Not sure if its the same type of oil that the foam ones require ,, but it does require RE-OILING after wash.

I tried the K&N filter in one of my 2007 Grizzlies, and dusted my intake. I learned later that it probably got AROUND the filter, not THROUGH it, because the instructions did not include anything about greasing around the edges.
Looks decent but I'm still not sold on the seal of the gasket up front. If that doesn't completely seal and last then nothing else really matters. I would want to grease it but not sure how the grease would work out on the rubber. I grease the foam on the stock and so far no dust but then again it's not dusty right now.
If it does , it would restrict airflow , which would only make it run richer.. Since most run lean from factory , it may even run better.. Though not the best setup for power..
Most of what I read about the K&N letting dust in doesn't include the Outerwears. Where's the proof of dust getting by worse than the foam filter with the Outerwears on? I have been using K&N with Outerwears for decades and NEVER had dust in the intake. I also like the positive sealing of the rubber ring instead of the crappy foam ring against the box that lets dust in. Glad they now have one for the 2016 I will be buying one with the Outerwears and flow more air when I add the 2R & EHS controller. A lot of times you can just change out the Outerwears instead of cleaning the filter.
I'm going to purchase a K&N and wrap both my factory filter and new Uni filter around it, then I am going to take the pillow of my bed and tightly wrap that around the new fandangled filter and duct tape the Sh!t out of it to provide a additional down feather filtering!:rofl:

I looked at the K&N while holding it up to a light...
I do not like what I saw. Lots of pin size holes of light coming thru.
I like the way it is sealed , and I like the rubber grommet at the front , I like it fits tighter.
I am going to run BOTH , as the stock foam pulls over the K&N with a little effort. It fits well , and covers the entire K&N filter.
I think double the filter = Best case.. at least I know now , that ONLY the pin sized holes are my biggest fear , and they are covered with the OEM.
HOWEVER , I have not run it yet , and may find a airflow problem to exist. I do NOT think I will , but I will soon find out.
