Angry Help, hopefully the last time!

Ok fellas, I put my shims from the FIX kit in the wrong place. Pulled them out and put them in the right place, torqued the main nut back down to 100ft/lbs and now the outer part of the sheave is rubbing the aluminum clutch guard (or whatever it is). Am I missing something???? Can I just take a handgrinder and grind around the guard where its hitting??? Need help so I can FINALLY fix the ol FIX kit and be DONE w/ it!!!

ps can you feel my frustrations????

I'm planning on putting in a shim or two in my 550. I noticed that there wasn't much clearance between the sheave and the cage and I'm going to do exactly that. I'm going to take the trustry dremel tool and create the needed clearance. Don't get too grind happy as the cage carries the output shaft and you need to leave as much strength as possible.

I'm gonna grind'er down some more then. I'll keep the support in mind and try not to take too much off. Thanks J!

I had another idea instead of grinding more. What about putting some washers on the ends of the screws then put the guard on. It shouldn't need much more than a 16th or so. How does this sound?

hey snake i read somewhere it does not make any difference what side you put the shims, as long as you have the splines line up on the cam plate when you put it back together.

the splines are lined up as far as I can tell. Everything is tight, its just barely scraping at idle.

Well, I've got a great solution for this now! I put some washers on the clutch guard to push it out a little. Now there is plenty of room and no rub! Wish I could have thought of this earlier.
