Installing performance atv snorkel kit for 550

I'm installing the kit for the 550...everything looks great with step by step instructions...I have a question about the air/fuel ratio when adding snorkels. My bike is completely stock, except for the addition of the snorkel (2 1.5" air snorkels), will I need a programmer to correct the air/fuel ratio? Guess I should have asked this before starting the project last night haha.

I'll post up some pictures when done.

Thanks,
Keith

I believe with that snorkel it keeps it close to stock flow, so you shouldn't need a programmer

I just called performance atv and they said that the 550s don't have a problem with only a snorkel in place...just so you guys know.

Looking forward to seeing the pics, I really like how clean the performance kit looks.

I run dual 2" on my 700, and its fine. Dont do the hanger mod, and you will be ok. Once you do the hanger mod, you will want to add some fuel.

Well I finished installing the tubing last night...I can't believe how and the hell are you guys fitting 2" pipes through the left side of the pod? I can barely fit the 1.5" marine exh hose with the rubber couplers on. I had to fight and squeeze them in place...didn't really get them to fit like I wanted, but I'll just have to adjust the stack's position to get them to look like I want. Pretty tedious stuff to get lined up. Did you guys with custom jobs have that much trouble fitting the snorkels under the pod?

Installation Pictures: Excuse the muddy bike...didn't wash it too good in the dark LOL
Vent Lines Tee'd and transmission pipes in place

Transmission intake and exhaust couplers and gas tank vent line

Tight fit under the pod

All buttoned up

Overall the kit is great, comes with everything you need, as well as the bracket to mount the stacks. The only problem I had is trying to squeeze that stiff hose under the gauge pod. The only other concern is that if I need to access my battery or fuses underneath the pod cover, it'll be a MOFO to to put that cover back on while having the stacks all glued together. Can't wait to try it out!!

Do not extend your fuel vent line and also don't use the check valves they give you in the kit. Extend the rest of the lines up the snorkel stacks, which should leave 2 lines running up once you tee everything together. My only complaint about the kit is that the plastics don't quite fit right after you are done, but what do you expect for a not butchering the bike?

Oh almost forgot to mention, you might want to turn your elbows at a 45 degree angle unless you want the belt exhaust blowing in your face..... This is just a suggestion however.......

I noticed the belt exhaust when I first fired up the bike...LOL too late now. Why do you not vent the gas tank or use the check valves? I noticed it is fairly hard to push any air through the check valves, so I was concerned that it would not act as a vent anymore.

Keith

Well for the reason you listed about the check valves. I have had problems with the bike spitting gas on the pod with an extended vent line and honestly it think it was making my bike run funny sometimes, my bike started acting better once i put the factory one on it. This could be because they hose they supplied was considerable smaller than the factory gas tube, but I just don't feel it is necessary to vent the fuel tank. The factory vent on the gas tank point straight down and it has a type of check valve already on it. Personally I think you would have to keep the bike submerged upside down to get water in the gas tank and at that point I think the gas would be the least of your worries.

The vent line they gave me is pretty big, I ran it up the snorkel...I'll see how it does this weekend. As for the other vent lines, I'll leave the check valves in place because it'll be a pain to get that pod cover back in place. Have you had to take it off with the stacks glued in place?
