I am in the data gathering stage to purchase a new ATV, my first. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
I am leaning toward a new 2009 450 Grizzly for the machines features (street blue color) and price point…+ haven owned a few Yamaha street and dirt bikes I am bias toward Yamaha.…For now a 550 or higher is out of my reach, unless I was to buy used. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
One of the local stealerships quoted me $5,500.00 for a new 2009 450 4X4 Grizzly.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
My brother recommends a machine that is at least a 450 or higher, preferably higher...5K is where I want to start because I also need to acquire everything else needed for the machine, state stickers, insurance, helmet and other safety gear and clothing.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Is $5,500.00 a decent price for a 2009 450 4X4 Grizzly? <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Thoughts suggestions.<o:p></o:p>

Welcome to the site GSH, 09 grizz 450s are going for between $5300 and $5800 in NJ depending on color so it is a decent price. Others on here will tell you if you look hard enough you may be able to get a great deal on a 09 550 though so try looking a little farther out and you may get lucky.
Edit: You will need a little extra money for some of the important mods.
1= If you are doing any real trail riding with rocks, sticks, logs etc. you should get full skids
2= The stock maxxis tires are crap in anything wet so you may want to get better tires
3= If no one you will be riding with has one get a winch either a warn or viper (viper is site sponsor)
These are what I think are essential then you can add more mods as you wallet replenishes.
Dan I would say 5500 is a very good price I have seen them a little cheaper but not by much. I gave 6000 for one a few years ago and was happy with that price at the time.

Yes, that's a pretty good price got my for about 6k with a winch. And it is a good size, plenty of power, diff lock, IRS. While I'm sure people will say more power, you really will be quite happy with this. Buy what you can, no sense going broke. I bought mine because it was what I could afford, and I couldn't be happier with it.

Yeah out the door for the machine, but I think it will be wise for me to purchase an extended warranty.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
The main purpose for my buying an ATV is for "fun" trail riding, but I will also be using it to plow my driveway, ice fish and some yard work.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
My brother has children who live in upper <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on">Michigan</st1:State>, which is where he does most of his riding, as well as <st1:place w:st="on">Upper Wisconsin</st1:place>.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
They really got my attention when they made plans to ride the <o:p></o:p>

I will keep shopping and I will definitely be haggling…winch thrown into a deal would rule!<o:p></o:p>

Wow! 1 and 2 will be a must...I'm going to have to finance.
Just look around I got my new 2008 grizzly 700 last feb for 5997 OTD it wasnt ESP but it was a great price. right now and even a month or two dealers will be gettin nervous about there inventory and tryin to get rid of last years stuff and big price discounts
Ricochet skids have paid for themselves on mine. All the rocks I've hit and sticks I've encountered would have done some pretty heavy damage had they not been heavy duty aluminum. Also, check out Dicks ATV for good pricing on tires.

No need to freak out...haha As mentioned already ricochet skids are good as are the aluminum products skids I have. My full skids cost $280 incl shipping from the manufacturer. Depending on what tires would best siut the trails you would be riding you will probrably spend between$260 - $400 for stock sizes. The skids should be the first purchase the tires could wait a little if needed.
Well the sales rep was full of sh!t about the $5,500.00 otd, yesterday I called and requested a formal quote and it's now $6,595.00 otd. I said I will take my business elsewhere…sucks because they are so close to my home.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I requested quotes from most of the dealers in the area. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
The best deal I found is a 2009 550 Grizzly FI EPS for $6,595.00 w/tax 7K out the door+ they have all colors available, now I'm thinking of getting a black Grizzly to match my Tundra.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Maybe they have a machine for less without EPS, which is a feature I'm not to crazy about...What do you do if the EPS fails and you are 30 miles out? ...are you screwed?<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Well I will pull the trigger Saturday morning. … I will post pics<o:p></o:p>
Just read what was written about the idea of buying the extended warranty through Yamaha. Understand that Yamaha's extended warranty program is very tricky. They only cover MANUFACTURER's DEFECTS not caused by normal wear and tear.
I had a 2002 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 and I purchased the Y.E.S. plan for an additional 3 years of coverage. About two years into the plan my radiator began leaking and they claimed it was normal wear and tear because of corrosion when in reality that had nothing to do with it. There was a part on the radiator that actually wore through. Do not ask me how, but it did.
On a speparate occasion I had a problem with the engine not starting. I though it was probably carburetor related, but I was not sure. So, I took it to the dealer figuring I had the extended warranty. Listen to this...the dealer tore the carb apart and the float was completely shot! Now I have seen floats go bad, but in only 2 years and 1 month? Anyway, they wouldn't replace the float under the warranty because that was "normal wear and tear".
All I am saying is beware of Yamaha's extended warranty plan. I really do not think the warranty plans are worth it.
