550 vs. 700
As some of you know, my girlfriend totaled my 2009 700 on new year's day. I went to the delership the other day and saw the new 2010 700 se and I really liked it, but I think the 550 would be enough for me. It is also a lot cheaper. How much is the power dfference? As I understand it, the motor is the only difference. Any thoughts or opinions? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Even the block is the same just a diffrent jug on it. I plan on getting a 550, it will be plenty for what I do, and I've grown up on a 350 or less so a 550 is huge to me.

550 will do just about anything a 700 will do, just a tad slower.

Well, as jStowell2008 said, I always had the smaller atv's, so when I went to look for an upgraded bike, I was looking at the big bear 400. The only reason I got a grizzly 660, was because they gave me a better deal on the 660 because it was 1 model year old.(still in the crate though) 550 should be plenty, but it is really a matter of opinion.

550 Is ll you need! I got a 700 and the wife a 550, the only difference is the 700 has a little more snap off the initial throttle but when rolling along there is no diff! We did a rolling start at about 10mph and we both hammered it, the 550 stayed with me till about 40 and then I started to pull away. The 550 will do ALL you need and the money you save will buy you rims and tires:)))

I would say if your a heavy 220lbs+ guy a 700 would be the better choice. Bigger is better is a myth. I would get the size that fits you the best and not look back. I would guess that the 550 would get more mpg, which is a big selling point for all day rides. I'm still waiting to see the 1200cc Polaris or the 100mph CanAm to massage the neediest of egos.

I have no doubt that a 550 will do anything you want or need, but when I decided to sell my 700 Sportsman to get a Grizzly, I didn't want to go down in power. I guess your satisfaction may depend on whether you are going up from a smaller bike than down from a larger. I know this may not make sense and maybe it's just me, but I hate to trade "down".

One question: When you owned the 700, did you ever say to yourself, "I probably should have just got the 550?"

Life is short, get one if you can afford it. No, no one "needs" a 700, but how many people "need" any ATV, I sure don't.

We have both a 550 and 700 and there is a reasonable difference in power, but if you mount the 550 without getting on the 700, you'll never know the difference. The 550 exceeds my requirements.
I would have bought two 550's, but when I went shopping for the first 550, the Stealership made me a deal on the 700 that was only a few hundred dollars difference, so I bought it instead. My wife did not want a 700. Ours are both without EPS and we have had no issues turning, etc. I'm sure it'll negatively impact my resale, but I didn't buy them to sell. Good luck with your decision.

Only when considering the price of the quad and the price of insurance

The only time I ever think that is when I ride with friends that have Renegade 800s. Then it dawns on me... I'd still have a knife at a gun fight. I have no problem going where they go, some places I'm better off. But going down the road at 80mph, not going to happen, 700 or not.

Yea, if you want to drag race down the road, get the Renegade, for a matter of fact, why get an atv if your going to stay on the road. Fact is, the Renegade WILL beat the Grizzly on an open road. Its another story anywhere else though and if theres a nice mud pit at the end of the road, the grizz will get there and pull it out! Can't say enough about the argument anybody puts up about how fast the Renegade is. Its like comparing a Pinto with a top fuel funny car! GET IT ? Straigt out, I think the 700 Grizzly is the best option. More power so you will never be short. Yea fork over the money in the beginning and a little bit more each year for insurance. But you will never look back. How many times will you look forward sitting on that 550 till you pony up and buy the 700??

You know, I doubt I will ever own a 700. MJJORGE has a 660 and we ride together all the time, even lined them up a couple of times and it was neck and neck. I've never honestly been in a situation where I thought I didn't have enough power. I've got 100 hours and a tad over 800 miles in the last 15 months on the 550 and it's been a perfect quad. I would like to sample the EPS though....

Yeah, im not really wanting to go down in power. Once I have already had a 700, I think I'll have to stick with that. Its looking like fall 2010 before I get another 700. I will probably try to get one used.
