Have you tried installing the quiet core that HMF makes (didn't know if that is what you meant by muffler)? It will knock the sound level down a few dB but its still going to be loud as hell, all Utility models are. Just wait until you get it wet a few times and the packing starts to go, then it really starts to bark. Your best bet is to give all your buddies earplugs .

If you are wanting the same power as the HMF Utility pipe without the noise you are going to have to replace it and buy the HMF Swamp Series slip-on pipe. Make sure you get the regular Swamp Series and not the Swamp XL. The XL stands for Extra Loud (as loud or a little louder than the Utility Pipe). The regular Swamp Series pipe is about the same volume level as stock with a deeper throatier note. It makes the same power so you will not loose anything by switching. Sell your Utility Pipe to help cover the cost of the new pipe.

Lol!!! yes, the age is one of the problems!!!
and, yes, what I meant was that I have installed the HMF quiet core and its still too loud.
if I make one with the oem core for the HMF utility, will I lose performance?
