i was going threw some snow and the 4 wheel drive stopped working towed it out and the the housing for the front dif., where the drive shaft goes into the dif. broke do i need just a new housing?, and is there anything else that holds the drive shaft in, it is a 2006 yamaha kodiak 450 with 27" tires what other years/models will the housing/diff fit?

Ya a pic would definately make it a lot clearer as to whats sheared off... not familiar with the parts breakdown of a kodiak diff at all

Pictures would help the only thing going into the diff is your pinion shaft

My 07 450 Grizzly has a yoke that conects to the u-joint via drive shaft is the yoke broke? If so you can replace the yoke once the drive shaft is removed you can remove the nut holding the yoke on.
