Air Filter and Coolant Question

A few simple questions.

(1) What kind of solvent would you use to clean the air filter mesh when your cleaning the air filter element?

I herd you can you use varsal, is this OK

(2) What kind of solvent would you use to clean the sponge material when cleaning the air filter element?

(3) Can you use any type of coolant (Canadian Tire) or is
there something specific for our GRIZZ?

Sorry guys just learning as I go.

Thanks GC

O.K. - Let me try to answer your questions one at a time.

Most major auto parts dist in the US (Auto zone, Pep Boys, ect.) carry the K&N filter cleaner kit which consists of a bottle of cleaner for the filter and a bottle of charger to re-oil the filter after you have cleaned it.

Varsal may deteriorate you filter element, so I would suggest not using it - just in case.

We may be able to give a more definative answer if we knew what year bike you have and what type of filter we are talking about.

As for the coolant - any major brand of coolant will work fine. If your flushing your coolant system - I suggest getting a bottle of Water Wetter, or Engine Ice and follow the additive directions when refilling your radiator.
Either of these two additives will help your cooling system work more efficently.

let us know on the year & model................

Use a quality coolant and a K&N recharger kit as jteahan3165 mention and u will be good to go.Make sure there is air locks when u bleed the cooling system.Jc said your not riding this weekend? I got my wife (begged her LOL she'll watch the kids) to switch a shift so I am going this weekend.Any problems with the coolant system give me a call.

Water wetter is 1 oz. per quart of water (or 50/50 mix)
I have a 660 so I'm not sure of the coolant cap. on the 700's but the operators manual should have it in the specs.

Hi guys thanks for getting back to me.

jteahan3165,

I own a 2007 Special Edition 700 GRIZZ. Thanks for the information on the K&N recharger kit.

Transam355,

This is what I did I removed the radiator cap and checked the coolant in the radiator. The coolant was all the way to the top in the radiator. Than I checked the coolant level in the coolant reservoir and the reservoir was bone dry. So instead of changing the whole coolant which was done in the spring I am just going to add some coolant to the reservoir. Yes I herd that you guys are going up to Batchawana.....man I love that place..... I am going to see if I can come, hope I can swing it.
That's great that you will be able to go. Your going to have a blast.

Just wanted to add that you should make sure the K&N kit you buy is for FOAM filters if you have the original FOAM filter. I made the mistake of buying a K&N kit for a fiber/paper filter.
Later.....
