I have a service manual and will be installing a new belt in the CVT. Quick question: Do I have to take the secondary completely off in order for the two bolts to be tightened into the secondary fixed sheave and seperate the secondary sliding sheave away to make room for sliding the new belt in?

No you don't have to take the secondary off. Just evenly tighten the two bolts into it and it will spread.
Thank-you. I didn't think I needed to and hoping I didn't. Just double checking.

I got the belt on. I did have to take the secondary off. Ain't no way that sucker was going on otherwise. I have a question: Is there a short period, like maybe a mile or two before the belt expects to start really gripping and pulling good? I've only backed it out the garage and washed it on the driveway, then drove it back in the garage, but it felt like it wasn't grabbing very good and didn't have much engine break. I'm hoping it just needs a short break-in period. I know I need to drive it a few miles before I make a real decision, but I was sitting in the garage and thought I would just run it by you guys that have experie. nce with replacing a belt. By the way, the one way bearing was replaced just a few months ago. Thanks, Jason.

Yes guys, I know about the bolts and spreading the secondary. It just wasn't happening for me. Wasn't letting enough slack or room to fit the belt over both sheaves. So now that the belt is on, should the the belt act more reactive after a few miles?

It should have been reactive as soon as you rolled out of the garage. Something don't sound right to me. Did you fire the machine up with cage on and cover off and rev the puppy up to watch the action of the belt in the sheaves?

I did rev it up with the cage cage off. It acted like it should. In and out, in and out with the throttle reved up and down. Did I screw up with doing that with the cage off?

Alway's run with cage,
It was clean, but I didn't scuff the glaze. I'm a little confused because everything went perfect when I installed the new one-way bearing a few months ago. I did everything the same as far as disassemble and assemble.

Ok. I just took it for about a mile test run. All is good. Seemed like about a hundred yards or so and she woke up! I feel even more torque with this new belt vs. the old belt.
