It's my first post on here, but sure to not be my last. I misplaced my repair manual so I can't figure this out.
I have an 01' kodiak 400 4x4 ultramatic. Everytime I put it in 4wd it starts clicking. I removed both front axles and had the local yamah dealer check out the CV joints. They assured me the clicking wasn't from them. I grabbed the front drive shaft and it seems to have some play. I can wiggle it back and forth in my hand so I assume the U joint as some play and that could be my clicking noise? Anyway....
How do I remove the front drive shaft and replace the U joint. Honestly I looked under it and I can't even see a Ujoint unless there is a some sort of cover over it?
Just found your post and it sparked my curiousity so I went and checked my 03 Kodiak 400. There does not appear to be a coventional u-joint but there is a rubber boot where the shaft enters the front diff so I assume it must be a type of cv joint. As to how it comes apart you will have to wait until someone smarter than me replies. Good luck.
