Well, I got the HMF Swamp XL Series Pipe and Optimizer installed yesterday. I grabbed the camera for a quick video for all of you. Special thanks to my son, "mini-me", for helping out!

First impression...This thing sounds bad azz! At idle, my Grizzly sounds more like a large Grizzly Bear! The tone is low and has a "whop, whop" sound. On acceleration, the Grizzly snaps to life and has a loud "bark". At cruising speeds, the HMF is not much louder than stock. Jump on the throttle and that changes immediately.

Here is a short video to give you an idea, although the video does not do the sound any justice. Enjoy

That sound is awfully familiar, I know, there is one of them in my garage. I love the sound of my HMF too.

Do you have the Swamp XL series or another HMF pipe?

Thanks!!!

A buddy of mine that has the HMF Penland Series pipe on his Arctic Cat 700 was over here yesterday and I was showing him the new Swamp XL. He said he liked the sound of my pipe better than his Penland Series. He said it sounded deeper and more throaty than his pipe. He also liked the end cap better than his Penland.

Ya, the springs were a pain in the azz!!! I bought a "spring tool" but it took me a couple of minutes to figure out the right way to use it. Once I had that figured out, things went pretty smooth. It still took me some time to get the springs back on. I ran the Optimizer up under my fuel door. I wanted to run it back to the dry box under the seat but the battery wire was too short. Under the fuel door works well. It will keep the majority of the mud and water off it. I can relocate it later if needed.

I also did the "hanger mod" while I had the air box plastic off...

Here are a couple of pics of the Swamp XL before it was installed...

The power increase is very noticeable on the low end. My Grizzly really snaps off the line now! The mid range is stronger as well. The top speed is about the same as before (maybe a little higher ), but I get there much faster. Average "cruise" speed was about 45mph before...now my comfortable "cruise" speed is around 51mph. Top speed is between 60mph and 65mph (depending on terrain). Keep in mind I have not changed any of the settings on my Optimizer yet. So far it performs well so I have not changed anything yet. If I start to foul plugs I will make some changes.

The sound...well, on start up the sound is a very deep (and somewhat loud) whop...whop...whop. Hit the gas and she really "barks" loud. Once you get up to "cruise" speed, it is not a lot louder than stock (well, not too much louder ). I have not heard the regular Swamp Series but from what I have read it is about 96db at its loudest. The Swamp XL is 104bd at it's peak!!! I got out and did a late evening run yesterday, right after I got it installed...My wife and friends could hear me about 1 mile away. What does that say about how loud it is!!!! I am not running the "quiet core" or "spark arrestor", so I could tone it down...if I wanted to .

Nice sound, not too loud. Just what I would want in my next pipe.

Now I want one!

I have a utility model but its for a 400 or 450 Kodiak. Had to do a little fabbing but it fits right in there. I love the sound, it is a little loud, at least thats what she says. I bought it used then I bought a sparky and a quiet core for it. Had the core in once, it does tone it down a little. Makes it sound more stockish. I know what you mean about the low end and middle, mine gets it right now. I dont think it is much faster but it gets there a heck of a lot better than it used to. Combined with the UNI, carb jetting and the EHS lid it is one bad little Grizz.
