Shipping quads cross country
Has anyone had a group ride where you shipped the quads to a destination by tractor trailer? If so, what are the costs like and what companies? Would like to have a group ride in Utah sometime.

Not sure why you would want to ship your quad. How are you going to get your quad from place to place at the destination end? Do you have access to a truck and trailer or are you going to rent them? I have shipped quads when I was moving to another state but my employer paid for the move. It is expensive and assuming you will have to get your quads back home you will be doubling your cost. Add in plane tickets and car/trailer rental at the destination end and you could easily spend twice what driving your own vehicle and trailering your own quads would cost. Additionally, all fluids have to be drained from your quad when you ship across state lines (federal laws apply). That means all fuel, motor oil, and differential oil too. The carrier can be fined up to $10k for shipping an ATV with fluids. Just seems to me that is way too much expense and hassle for a recreational ride. Drive your own auto and trailer your quads. Then you know exactly what happened to them on the trip. Not to mention, what if your quads don't arrive at the distant end when you ship them?
If you are dead set against driving, then find a place that rents quads on the distant end. Rentals go for around $120.00 per day in my area.

I have never done it myself but I have had friends ship Harley's to another state and then get a taxi to pick them up and did not have any of the issues listed above. You can go to any Harley dealer to arrange to have a Harley shipped to any other dealer so I am sure you can get it done with an ATV as well. I personally prefer to trailer it myself so you know what happened along the trip as well as you can get it from place to place as mentioned above. Good luck

there is a guy on several sites, jtquad i think is his screenname, that sets up annual trips to glamis. he arranges the carrier, lodging, everything for the ride. i think it ends up costing around $1500 per person for everything.
i have seen him on nyroc, but i think he has his own site, glamistrips.com is the name (i think) he should be able to answer any of the questions you have about shipping a quad.
he may even consider setting up a paiute trip if there was enough interest

uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Vehicles or Moves, works as a auction.
U setting up what (atv), from where to where, pickup time and date , delivery time and date, insurance , type of transportation, crated- or not, etc etc.
You can check reviews about carrier, his fleet, how long in the bussines .
You can place an auction also just to check How much it be .
Give Your self couple days- You'll see how the price is going down, esspecialy if You're not in rush, have some flex in time and date.

Yeah, I've talked to him about his trips. Just putting feelers out there for possibly doing my own deal.

If trailering out west from PA I would need almost 2 weeks to do it if I spend 1 week at the destination. I was thinking I could have them shipped to a dealership out there at the location and any that need rejetting could have it done prior to arrival. Then have them picked up at the dealership for the return trip home. I am looking at a about a group of 10 quads.

There was an article in our local paper the other week about a corvette club having their vettes shipped out to Reno for a western US touring vacation. It said they paid $500 to have them shipped, don't know if that was each way or one way per car. They shipped 6 of them out there to a dealership and picked them up there. I would prefer to ride my own quad instead of renting one.
