So I started thinking about how a long time ago my friend had a yamaha warrior that came with a thumb throttle. He raced it and did not like the throttle so he put on a twist throttle. Just wanted to hear some thoughts on this. Maybe someone has done it? Knows where to get one? Liked or disliked? I don't see a real advantage of getting one other than maybe comfort?

I may have put this in the wrong section but this one is my favorite so I put it here!!

Very good point Boets. I never looked at it that way. Great advice and safety tip!

Several racers out there actually prefer twist throttle. Not for me.

I would not want a twist throttle on a ATV... I did see one on E-Bay... Not sure for what bike but they do make them...

Revisit for more info.

Ok, I searched and searched and FOUND this old thread on twist throttle to resurrect. That should make all you search hounds happy. My question to continue this is has anybody put the twist mod on their machine? I found one on eBay and was considering it.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It goes for 58.00 and I was trying to think of the pros and cons of replacing the thumb throttle. Here is what I have so far. Anybody got any other thoughts?

Pros: Goodbye “Thumb Numb”. More secure grip being able to use your thumb. No more thumb slipping off throttle on severe bumps.

Cons: Hello “Hand Numb”. Not being able to let off gas when getting out of control vs. falling off.

Mysteries of life.

Why in the Star spangled banner is the word yet pronounced with two sylables?

What is the meaning of the two bathtubs in Cialis commercials?

Who was the blithering idiot that decided snowmachines and ATVs needed a thumb throttle instead of a twist throttle?

The world may never know.

I was thinking about the pros and the cons also. I pretty much have to completely agree with Upstate and I think you would have a lot of unwanted throttle. like for instance on turns it would probably be hard to prevent giving it to much throttle and possibly running into the person in front of you or a tree

We have two riders in our group that use a twist throttle.
It is a combination unit that can be used as a twist or as a thumb. You still use the stock thumb unit and the twist unit pushes on the thumb lever. When not wanted it is rotated up and the thumb is used. It can be handy for long rides, for when the thumb gets tired.
I have rode there quads with it, and do not care much for it. It has a larger diameter grip than a stock grip, and rotates without much resistance.
I was a dirt bike rider for many years, and also missed the twist throttle at first. But once I got used to the thumb throttle. I do like it.
The twist throttle unit I am talking about was purchased at Cabela's....DRK
