Is Yamaha going back to the 686 engine for 2019?

This is pretty interesting. Check out the CARB document for the 2019 Yamaha ATV's.

That could mean anything. Just maybe they are re-upping the certification on the 686.

Subaru builds the 708 for Yamaha. Could it be a dispute between supplier/purchaser? IMO the 708 has not had the reputation for reliability that the 686cc has had.

I can't find your listing on carb's website anywhere......The only 686 cc engine is listed for the Viking. Could the 686cc listing been for the Raptor?

I saw that. That’s great news. I hope Yamaha includes further minor updates for the X2.

But also looks like the Viking keeps the 686 motor.

There is a seperate sheet for the raptor.

If you look at the sheet, some models have a G(Grizzly) and some have a K(kodiak).

They do not have the 708 listed in either the UTV or ATV section.

Someone on the Wolverine forum said their dealer said the 708cc was going away in 2019 for the SXS market - they didn't say anything about the quads though. We all know how accurate the "heard it from my dealer" info tends to be with Yamaha. We'll all just be waiting with baited breath...

I was looking at the wrong list, I was looking at the "green sticker" executive orders.

The list you attached is "red sticker" non compliant engines? The new models are usually "green sticker" (compliant). If you read the order it says the 686 does not comply with emission standards and subject to use restrictions? I wonder what all that means?

What is interesting is that the 686 in the viking is green sticker compliant, but the ATV versions are not. Are ATV's held to a different standard than a UTV?

I was just going by what I had read on this forum as well as the Wolverine forum. I searched and could not find anything other than forum chatter.

All I found was an article saying that Yamaha purchased the Subaru Industrial Power Products division in October of last year.
