Was 2008 a good year for the Grizzly 700?

I'm regretting not having an ATV. Want one for <50 trails, some work around the house, and some trail maintenance. So I'm thinking about getting back into the Grizzly world in addition to my SxS.
Who can provide me some input on this machine?

07-15 Grizzly 700 model year changes year-by-year list

This should help. Sounds like the 08 700 didn't really change from 07 so the same issues which were on 07 carried over to 08?

Everything on that bike, from the link, looks fairly good from the pictures. Pretty much stock bike aside from the back tires, winch and hitch.

Personally I would avoid 08 simply because of the lack of oil cooling line for the stator that was added from 09 and later years, unless it has an updated cover already...

Thanks for the link. So might need fuel tank vent recall if not done already, and reverse switch. Those are easy.

Can you tell me a little more about this? My friend and I put a LOT of miles on a pair of 07s, never heard of this concern.

07 and 08 where known for burning out stators. Yamahas remedy for this was adding an oil cooling line that sprays a small jet of oil on the stator to help keep temperature down. Because of this upgrade 09 to 15 Grizzlys rarely have stator problems.

This picture is of an 08 that had a stator failure and the owner installed an update cover. Note the oil line.

Looks like there is an 09 with half the miles, realtree camo, winch, aluminum skids (not my favorite) and a few other extras for $6K. Seems like that would be the better choice, if I get a Grizzly.
Also tossing the idea around of a new ATV, but my experience with that 2016 with the airbox redesign and leaky head really put me off new Grizzlies.

The stator upgrade is not a big deal if you really like the machine. Some guys just ran the oil level a little above the fill line, I decided to replace both mine and my wife's to the 09 cover and oil line upgrade for piece of mind.

I asked the seller for close-ups of suspension and frame joints. Most of them look fine - a bit of paint knocked off by rocks and some surface rust but not bad. But this picture caught my eye - I have cropped it down. Am curious what you guys think of it.

There are a few other units in my area with similar pricing. There's a 2009 in realtree camo with half the miles and a few extras for $6K, but I'd have to drive 5 hours to look at it.

I would say normal on that picture.

There is the possibility that specific 08 Grizzly could have had the stator oil line added by Yamaha or previous owner too. However, there could still be an EPS vent issue but many just squirt some WD40 or similar down the vent line. EPS is supposed to be better, feels more noticeable, as the years went on.

The areas of peeled paint on the the weld and arcs of peeled paint below the joint?

I had a 2015 and a 2016 for a while (kicking myself for selling the 2015, it was great). Didn't really notice the EPS being any better on those, compared to the 07 models I had before those two.

Yes on the peeled paint.

As per the stronger EPS, just what I've read except for my experience jumping on a 17 Grizzly where the EPS felt much, much stronger than my 07.
