foot brake sticking

hey there! New to the forum. Picked up a 2016 grizzly 700 yesterday. I have an issue with the foot brake not returning. I lubricated everything with no luck. I then removed the cable and it moves freely. I then removed the spring and I noticed that the lever is still not returning and is very stiff. do I just need a stiffer spring ?? thanks!!

take a look at the pivot point of the brake/shifter. If stiff and hardly returning, that might be the issue vs. a stiffer spring.

Welcome from Colorado.
I've seen the foot lever bent to the side and rubbing, and not returning to position.

A new spring is not the problem.
The issue is the pivot point for the foot brake lever. Completely remove the four brake lever from the pivot. Clean it pivot as best as possible. Might have to use scotchbrite or light sandpaper. Do the same on the inside of the lever. Apply grease then reinstall. The lever should now move freely. If it doesn't, remove and clean some more.

In addition to this, Ridgway has a good point. Sometimes the lever can get bent and rub on the plastic, causing stiff movement.

Thanks! Used a puller to get the lever off it was stuck on pretty good. Cleaned it up and greased it. Now it’s like new!

I have had the same issue with my 2017, hopefully this thread helps others with similar issues. Removing/cleaning/lubing did the trick on mine as well.
Thanks for sharing!

im having the same issue with a 2013 grizzly 700. whats the best way to get the foot brake off the pivot? i'm guessing that little u-shaped tab is there to function like a cotter pin and hold it in place but im having a hard time finding away to pop that off. if i get that off im guessing just pull straight out?

edit: got the u shappe cotter and washer off. does the spring have to come off too before trying to work it off the pivot?
