Moving On...Bought a Teryx 4

My passion for the Yamaha brand started in 2007 when I bought a Big Bear brand new. It was a good machine but I wanted more power. In 2009, I purchased my first grizzly, an 09 550. That is when I found this wonderful forum. My 2009 served me very well, with very few issues in 4,800 miles. I sold it at the end of 2015 to buy a side by side. After doing research online I decided that a side by side was a tough pill to swallow financially. So I went out and bought a brand new 2016 Grizzly 700. The 2016 was a fine machines but the whole time I owned it I kept thinking about a side by side.

This last summer I barely rode my Grizzly. All my friends sold their quads except one of them(He bought a Wolverine Rspec). I have 3 young children at home who love to ride and it was just unfair to bring only one or two of them. This summer I listed my 2016 and recently sold it to a member on this forum who was fantastic to deal with. It was time to start searching for a machine.

At first, I really wanted a 4 seat machine. I started looking at the Teryx4 and the Wolverine X4, but I just can't justify spending $15,000 on a machine. So, I started looking at Ranger's and Viking's. I was thinking I could fit myself and the 3 kids across the bench seat for some short rides. I found a beautiful 2015 Viking SE locally with 500 miles on it for $9,000. I went up and tried it out. I really liked the machine. It was mint. I went home to sleep on it and when I woke up the next morning I had decided I was going to buy it.

That morning, I jumped on craigslist and there was a 2012 Teryx4 EPS with 2,500 miles that looked in great shape for $8,000. I screen shot the ad and sent it to my wife. About 15 minutes later the ad was gone. I thought, "crap, I missed out on that one." I looked at the screen shot and called the number. The guy still had the machine but someone else wanted it so he pulled the ad. Long story short, I had the cash and I went up there and bought the machine. This is the first machine I've ever bought used and I really home it treats us well.

So, for the first time in 10 years, I do not own a Yamaha ATV. I know there will be times I miss my grizzly, but I am looking forward to new adventures with the kids on board. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this forum. I am a member of quite a few forums and this one stand out as one of the best!

I will still stop in every now and then!

I would just like to say thanks to both of you for all of your contributions to this forum since I joined 5 years ago. You have both been a wealth of knowledge and entertainment.

That's a great looking new ride @BlackGrizz550 . Enjoy making the memories with your little ones - that's what is really important and these years truly fly by. You can always buy another Griz someday if you want to. Keep some pics coming for us so we can see all the fun you're having. I bought my first SXS this spring since my youngest really took a liking to this sport. My wife and my older two aren't into it as much so I'm getting by with a 2-seater for now.
@NCMUDMAN - please keep coming back around here too. Wish I lived a little closer when you were selling the little machine. My 3 year old would love that and he's a little too small for the Griz 80 yet.

Cheers boys!

Yup, enjoy the new ride! Seems just about everyone loves those machines. The ones that don't have their priorities focused on large HP with subpar reliability.

Hope both you guys, @BlackGrizz550 and @NCMUDMAN choose to continue to contribute on here! (WOW, say that 3 times fast, lol)

Congrats on the purchase. I'm kinda in the same boat. I've got a wife and 3 kids, we ride a lot. We have 3 wheelers, but I really need one more so we can all ride comfortably. I've been wanting a Polaris General 4 and will put Portals and 32-35" tires on it. I've toyed with selling the wheelers, but I love winter riding on my Grizz with the paddle tires so I'll probably keep them. SXS are super spendy, mostly because I won't keep it stock lol. There's a lot of times it's just easier to pack everyone up in a SXS and go and not have to worry about loading up a trailer with 4 wheelers and all that. Hope it treats ya well.

Little tour in the yard. I like it so far. Can't do any real riding until hunting season ends in Mid December.

Looks to me like you’re Dad of the year as far as your little ones are concerned! Way to go! There will be another Grizzly in your future down the line. The thing about kids is they grow up and want to RIDE! Then you’ll ‘need’ another Griz! (And three youth quads...) ... (What?... I didn’t say it would be cheap!). lol.

I'm sure that will happen. My oldest is 7 and she was riding a Kymco 250 last summer. She is not ready for trails yet but I would imagine she will be in the next couple years. I have a LTZ 50 that my 5 year old rides. He does great on that machine. My 4 year old daughter is a dare devil so it may be a couple years before I let her try the 50!

We may all be back on quads in 7 or 8 years. Or maybe a sxs for my wife and I, and quads for the kids.

There’s nothing like riding with your kids. Teaching them, watching them learn and figuring it all out is worth its weight in gold. Surprisingly, my prissy little 6 year old girl has taken an interest in helping me with maintenance on our machines. I didn’t see that one coming!!

Sorry to see it go, but the T4 is a great machine. Have quite a few friends that have them and my parents have one as well, the only pitfall we have with them is the Diff lock limiter but that's only if your hot rodding, other than that they are bulletproof go anywhere machines. I went down the quad to SxS then back to quad since the birth of my son, and thinking about going to a SxS again in the future, but I don't think I'll be selling the grizz this time around :)

It is a Mongoose 250 that I inherited from my Uncle after he was killed in a motorcycle accident. I like the machine. It's an automatic so it's great for the kids to learn on.
