Now that my 2000 Kodiak is running well after the carb rebuild, I've turned my attention to my 2001 400. I bought it used - generally it runs great but it overheats on really hot days.
I pulled out the fan and found it was no good so I put a new high flow fan in. Could now hear the fan run, but it would kick off after about 20 seconds and then only come on for an instant about every 5-10 seconds - not enough air to cool the engine and radiator fluid. I then replaced the circuit breaker and the thermo switch in the radiator. Still only comes on for 20 seconds initially and then cycles on and off every 5-10 seconds. I am guessing it will still overheat if run hard enough on a hot day.
My 550 and other 400 both run the fan full speed when the engine calls for it until the engine and radiator fluid are cooled.
What am I missing?
