So my buddy got carried away and bought a 2017 base model Kodiak. When he got home he found out the bike has no speedo or even an hour meter. Does anyone here know if he can add one? I don't see why he couldn't but the dealer is telling him he cant.

Absolutely no reason he could not add the hour meter. Many different hour meters out there, some work on vibration, others are your typical once the ignition source is turned on it starts clicking away. As for a speedo on the newer models I can not help...not sure if they are cable driven, or run off a VSS or some other sensor?

Just looked on Partzilla at some blow up diagrams for 17 Kodiaks.....looks like a it's a speed sensor (2MB-H3755-00-00) . So most likely the engine control unit is different for a model with no speedo?

I doubt that the economy Kodiak doesn't have all the sensors or the wiring harness required to install an OEM speedo cluster. The ECU may not support the speedo cluster.

Best bet maybe a aftermarket speedo cluster like a trailtech unit

My old handheld G.P.S. reciever will calculate speed.
I use a fixed mount and have the 12 volt power cord to go to the power outlet (cigarette lighter).

Yes hour meter is easily installed , I put one on my old lawn mower to track hours , and a simple GPS will give you speed if that's all you want but won't track mileage.
