Hi all, just joined this group seeking some advice before buying a used ATV...

Looking for a 2000's Grizzly 660 or 700 or Kodiak 450 and possibly with power steering and/or fuel injection.

Looking for any years to avoid with possible known flaws and if there's any input you can offer. The bike will be used for just about everything from hunting/fishing, pulling a small trailer for fire wood and some pleasure riding. I'm coming from a 1998 Honda fourtrax 300 4x4.

Thanks in advance.
First, do you want/need a Kodiak? Or do you want a Grizzly???

Make it easier on yourself for the recon mission you put on your plate. :-/

Then, some would say, stay away from the Subaru engine(708cc) for the 3yrs mentioned of ‘16-‘18, but many would say that those year builds are beasts, and that oil issue is not what the “world wide web” claims it to be. Generally, most used Kodiak’s will not have diff-lock nor EPS.. where most used-Grizzly’s will have both useful upgrades imo.

But, still.. you looking to ride a Grizzly or Kodiak???

I seem to recall reading somewhere that there were naming differences between the US and Canada in how the 450 machine was named/sold. I recall reading in Canada it was a Kodiak 450 and in the US was a Grizzly 450 but it was an identical ATV for the earlier years, up to somewhere 2014 'ish... someone correct me if I'm wrong
You are 100% correct

It appears that the 450 Kodi was replace by the 450 Griz in 2007.
The 450 Griz disappeared in 2015
The Kodi name reappeared in 2016 with the 708 engine.
The 450 Kodi reappeared in 2018.
Some of the model names have bounced around the world.
Don't have info for Canada or the rest of the planet.
Many countries have had models dis/re- appear at a much different intervals that the US.

Wow. Had no idea.^^^

Wonder what was the reasoning behind this - marketing department must have been fun during those days. Did Yami have a manu reasoning? Or was this driven from consumer demand or a trademark/copyright issue? Anyone know the "reason" they did this?

Makes no sense to me - unless it was a strategic marketing decision or an odd manu decision. Only other thing >>> the emissions fiasco came into play 2014ish, so maybe that played a role.

I seriously had no idea, nor even have an idea why they would even do that >>> unless it was a strategic decision. Seems dumb to me - for a company that's been around forever like Yami to create a mix-up on models.

I would guess it is a marketing thing. Yamaha's stats probably prove that a certain name, appealing to "masculinity", results in more sales. I doubt that a new model with a name like The Koala Bear 700 would sell many machines.

LOL. Definitely give me a Yamaha Koala Bear, or maybe a Teddy Bear, as long as it is mean.

Funny!
My first instinct was "faux masculinity" with a machine named the "Posey" but then I thought, NO that could cause a ruckus.

FYI .....Please I can/will delete/edit this post if needed.
