Any of you also see this? Former White Sox pitcher Daniel Webb dies at 28 in ATV crash - WSMV News 4

They say ATV, but the content of the injuries has me believing it was probably a 4 seater sxs.

Horrible article. Author included ZERO details.

Ten bucks says they weren't wearing helmets (yes, even on a SxS if that turns out to be the case).

RIP.

Agreed, almost no details, which is what led me to speculating it actually being a SXS and not an ATV accident. No other articles out there provided any better details. I'm sure it will be clarified as details come out, and hopefully some benefit when it happens to a high profile person like a professional athlete is that it makes others aware of the need for proper safety.
Man, that's awful. 28 years old with the world by the ass. I lost my son in 2013 when he was 23. I feel bad for the family. I don't know anything about this "accident", but around here anyway, atv, sxs, boat, or snowmobile, it's almost 100% of the time, operating under the influence. People still think it's ok, or even funny. There isn't a damn thing funny about it.

We lost a local boy in a SxS crash recently. A group of three teens were out on a Ranger. As I understand it, the machine rolled and the boy was ejected. He was a passenger in the machine and 14 years old.

I seen this story on the local news as I live near Nashville , the details sucked on the news story as much as this article. They might be keeping the details quite out of respect for the family. I would say it almost has to be a SXS because his "wife and 2 other people was injured". I see on the trails a lot that the roll cage gives people a false sense of security like they can't get hurt. This past weekend at RRB there was a SXS on the trail behind us and we were on atvs. My buddy got hung up going up a slick rocky hill for just a minute and the impatient guy decided to blaze his own trail around us , he had to run over a small tree and it just about flipped him off the side of the mountain. Then he gave us a mean look with his beer hanging out the window as he went by , we couldn't have been stopped more than 1 minute.

I have almost 20 years committed to motorsports of some kind, including road racing sportbikes, casual rides, spirited rides, dirt bikes, riding ATVs and riding snowmobiles, I have crashed many times. Never once did I get seriously hurt. I've learned that these sports are dangerous enough without alcohol involed, so I don't touch the stuff if I'm going to be riding, and my closest friends luckily abide by the same commitment. Always wearing proper safety gear like a full leather suit, gloves, boots and full face helmet on the motorcycle; helmet and goggles with long shirt and long pants, boots and gloves on off-road equipment. When you don't take it seriously, serious stuff happens. I've been around motorsports long enough to have seen MANY people pay the price for ignorance and stupidity. Add to that the mistakes of other people that involve you at no fault of your own, and it equates to too many incidents. We call our machines toys, but they're not for immature people that don't understand the seriousness of what they are responsible for.

The best riders that I ever rode with wore a helmet, the worse ones did not.

This could not be more true for the motorcycling community as well. The guy that scoffs at your riding gear is the guy with no skills on a motorcycle and just wants to look cool.

I'm sooo sorry to hear you lived threw such a horrible, catastrophic loss. My condolences to you and your family.

Well over 30 years of riding here. I've always been an ATGATT guy: all the gear, all the time. There's nothing that my gear could do to save my leg (traumatic instant amputation when a hit & run clown in a '92 Buick mowed me over on the side of the freeway), but my helmet and other gear contributed to saving my life. Always do everything you can to ride safe.

Thanks Vincent. It's been pretty rough, but my wife and I are strong, with good family support. He had decided to drive home from a party rip roaring drunk, going like a bat out of hell. Smashed into another car, the other driver only broke their ankle, thank God. Pete was not wearing his seat belt, he was killed instantly. Substances and operating anything just doesn't mix. Thanks again.

Still so brutal though, such a tough loss. I have a 2 year old daughter, and I can't imagine having her for 21 more years, and then just suddenly be gone.

Still no more details on news websites on this mlb player's accident. Sure hope the remaining 3 people that were seriously injured are recovering well.
