Tuned the valves on my 1999 grizzly 600, prior to and after tunning it backfires causing the carb boot to kick off than it dies. I than have to reinstall the boot before attempting to start again. Thanks for any help.

Will it start at all?
If not, there is a good chance the flywheel woodruff key is sheared.

No it starts and runs fine when choked, as soon as it idles it backfires and kicks the boot off the carb causing it to stall.

In this case, inspect the carburetor adapter boot for tears or cracks.
The carburetor will probably need a good cleaning as well.

Sounds like it could be a clogged pilot jet in the carb.

You are 100% right. The manifold boot was allowing a little air in. New part ordered.
