My 2002 Kodiac electric starter is not working. I usually hold brake lever with left hand and also step on brake pedal at the same time then push starter and away it goes no problem. I've got a new battery with plenty of power. All the other electric systems seem to be working fine. The brakes are worn and when I go to stop I'm squeezing the lever almost to the handlebars, I'm thinking the pads are so worn that's why. Would this have an effect on the safety switch for the starter to work. Before I start tearing it apart to find the problem could it just need brake pads?

Worn brakes have no effect on the starter safety switch.

Does the starter not work in neutral or is it just the start in gear function not working?

Never mind I figured it out. The run switch had dirty contacts, took it apart and scraped the 3 brass contacts and cleaned with varsol/paint thinner and put back together and all fixed. Easy fix bikes back in A1 working order checked all fluids while I had hood off and ready to go.
