The differences between these two have been discussed before, but not much on the gear difference, guys that have ridden both(I haven't) have stated they can feel the difference, but what is it????? Sooooo in an ocd moment I got onto Partzilla & Checked them both out, I used my 2017 Grizzly 700 as a base & a 2017 Kodiak, I checked parts that could influence a ratio change, Primary, Secondary Sheave's, Weights, Spring, Front & Rear Diff, Pinion Gears, Ring Gears & High, Low & Middle Gears(couldn't think of anything else) & the result! The front diff LSD started with a different part no. B16 for the Kodiak & 1XD for the Grizz the rest of the part no. was the same, the matching gear was the exactly the same between the two, maybe if it's a LSD or not, don't know, the only real different part no. was in the Sheave Weights, totally different part no. & that was it! This was for the 2017, earlier years may have something different in them idk, interesting that weights would make that much of a difference, well I feel better now

This side-by-side comparison was also done with the same results for the 2016 models, first year for the 708 motor. No differences found in the powertrain with the exception of clutch weights and the size of stock wheels 25" vs 26".

I'm wondering if there is a difference in the way the two identical engines are tuned in the Kodiak vs Grizzly.

Did you look at the Kodiak 700 SE? Cause that's the one to use for comparison, because it has the electronic diff lock

Recently I was sucked into a drag kind race with "wvmtwins" he had his 2008 700 griz stock with 27"mudlite XTR tires. Only mod on my 708 Kodi is I've changed the CVT weights to 700 21±g weights. I have 26.5 Pitbull growler tires. Both machine are hauling similar weight.
We stayed about even until 30-35 then the 700 started pulling away up to 50-55.
Not the first time I've seen an 07-08 spank a newer machine.
I have for a long time felt that the 2007 -09 were faster than the later years. I think it is all ECU programing.
I have not checked the Kodi but I'd say the gear ratio from the secondary shaft to the axle is the same.

I really don't give a ratsass about speed but there you have it.

Bugger! forgot about the tyre size, it would certainly make a difference to the gear ratio's, don't know if Yamaha would spend the time & money on developing a different fuel map, but the Kodiak might be a bit lighter, all helps.

Might explain the front diff part no. difference Tythomps, didn't take note of which model Kodi it was, more to satisfy my own curiosity.
