Good Afternoon. I have a new 2016 Grizzly LE with heated grips. I have absolutely NO space for anymore brackets on my handlebars or brake perches. Has anyone had any luck installing a end of handlebar mount hand protector that would not ruin my heated grip? Any suggestions? Thanks!! I know my quad came with the windscreen with built in handguards...but that had to go :grin2:

I have the Kolpin hand protectors with the mirrors in them and the mirrors totally suck!!, that's was half the reason I bought the hand protectors in the first place was for the mirrors, like you said not a lot of room to mount anything on the handle bars, but i'm seriously looking at the atv windshields from Vip-Air, colour coded exactly to your machine and come with mirrors, way better looking and better fit and finish than the ones offered by Yamaha, worth having a look at for sure for those colder rides.

I used these Acerbis guards.
They would have been a breeze to install but my handlebars are steel plugged.
Some seem to be, some do not. We can’t seem to figure it out. I had to drill them out. That was a pain because I had to do it slowly so I didn’t build too much heat and ruin my heated grips.

So even though that was a pain to install they only go in the end correct? Those look like great guards.

@griz7, Those Vip-Air windshields look great! Did you end up getting one? If so, how do you like it?

The handguards looks nice! I found those plugs in my 2017 when I put my heated grips on last weekend. So, I would have the same problem if I bought guards that needed to go inside the handlebars. It is really strange that some have the plugs and some don't!

I realize this post is 6 months old at this time and didn't realize that until after researching for the Maier Handguards. For anyone still looking, these guards are sturdy and mount using the brake perch bolts and zip ties around the brake reservoirs. Better yet, they are listed 50% off the original price, direct from the manufacturer; https://maier-mfg.com/59201-yamaha-yfm550-yfm700-grizzly-handguards.html.

This is an old thread I see, I have same quad, and same hand guards and same issue...What size drills did you start and end with to make it fit and without overheating it? Hopefully you guys still see this thread.

I would think the simplest solution would be to use a step bit and take your time.
