Hard shifting Big Bear 350, but why?

I know BB 350 are commonly hard to shift and have read many many posts of people whit same problem, but never heard anyone knowing why.
Not all Big bears are hard to shift it seems, what is the difference and is it possible to fix?

I have a 350 -99 in good shape and I like it very much, shifting when driving at least 2-5 is no problem at all, shifting in to reverse is no problem. But shifting from reverse is nearly impossible and 1 gear is hard.

Mine have a heal shifter so it helps a lot, but it feels wrong to stomp that hard on it...

Bought it in winter, using heavy boots it was not so noticeable, but now in summer shoes it's a pain.

I bought it used with warranty from Yamaha dealer, warranty runs out soon. Is there some chance it might be fixed?

Sorry, I was not able to post pic of the beauty, to few posts...

If your warranty is running out I'd bring it to the dealer and let them look at it if they fix something then your warranty on that will be extended. It is probably a simple adjustment.

I don't have any trouble shifting my BB. Reverse was tricky, but my shift cable needed adjustment. BTW, I took the stupid reverse lockout safety interlock thingy off because that was nothing but a PITA.

Perhaps your clutch just needs a little adjusting? If you can take it to the dealer for a checkup under the warranty then I'd do that just to get a second opinion.

Thank you for answers!

Idle is low, tryed to lower it so it almost dies, same problem.
Clutch is adjusted, no change.
Lock cable is no problem, easy to put in to reverse. Out of reverse cable has no function (?).

It do jumps a little when putting first gear or reverse in when cold (choke on, higher revs).

If I adjust clutch a little more loose, say 1/2 turn instead of 1/4 or maybe 1 whole turn. What happens then, will I burn clutch as it don't engage fully until higher revs?
I use it in forest (for work) so I must be able to drive slow...

Edit:
Dealer is 2 hours away oneway travel by car so passing by and having a look is not so easy, but easy enough if I can't solve it.

I talked to dealer today and the mechanic sounded like he know what he was talking about.

1. It is very common on these models wiht reverse on foot shifter, the ones wiht high/low/reverse on stick was mostly ok. And higher gears is ok, same to put reverse in, just like mine.
2. He said they could mount a heal shifter to make it easier (have one already)
3. Change oil to fully synthetic
4. Lube linkage (done already)
5. lower idle (done already)
6. adjust linkage so that it is adjusted at optimal position, there was some measurements on screws length that it should be.
7. adjusting clutch was not going to help if it was ok freeplay, there is a pin on leveler on inside that "press" clutch before gear changes.
8.He could look at it, no problem.

I will try to change oil to syntethic and see if I can see if linkage to leveler on outside looks ok if that don't help I will call again.

Problem then is, what can they do? They serviced it before delivery and now I have used 1 tank of gas, so I guess it already is tuned.
I am not sure they can fix it even if they really want to and does their best.

I also talked to nearest dealer (1 hour away) when I passed by them, they had no clue at all, they rebuild one of those and it got very expensive, his advise was to run it until it died and buy a new...

Do not go back to this dealer again. That is totally whacked advice which shows he wants nothing more than to sell you a new quad.

Try changing to synthetic if you want to try that. This may just be a characteristic of your quad that you have to live with.

I would not put synthetic oil in it - the clutch is not designed for it.

If you put syntec oil in it make sure it's meant for wet-clutch application (JASO-MA) because otherwise you're gonna burn your clutch in no time.

I will put the correct oil in it for wet clutch, no problem, thanks for reminder.

Did a longer testrun (still "old", 30km, oil) and got it really warm.
When it is cool I have to stand on heal shifter to shift, 90kg, maybe not full weight but 70kg for sure.

But when it is warm I can use toe and it feels just like it should, no problem at all, maybe not as light as my 2-wheelers but ok.

Will try to change oil, but will it be worse over time? Is to put "wrong" oil in it the right solution while still under warranty?
