I had just realized i hadn't posted anything this year as far as game pics or hunting results so here it is in a nut shell...

Well it was a real different 1st year without Pop ... I think i just kind of went through the motions with him on my mind a lot ... But i was still pretty successful... Opening day of archery called in 2 bulls but no decent shot . The next day called them back and the 5 point came within 30 yards but i wasn't comfortable with the shot so i passed. Ten minutes later a spike x 2 came in at 12 yards and i stuck him good.. He went about 30 feet and expired..I really had no excitement as first thing i thought of was to call Pop and tell him so i just sat for a bit...

Deer season spotted a nice little fork horn for the woman but she missed and i dropped it....

I'll see about getting some pics on sometime ....

It's with mixed emotions the first season after losing a loved one/hunting partner. It will be 5 years in July since I lost my son. We hunted and fished together constantly. I always feel like he is near when I am in the woods or on the water.

Oh, and that's awesome about the Elk. I hope to be able to do that before I get too old. For us folks way over here, it's a long ways and a lot of money to go on an Elk hunt. Thanks in a large part to a good acorn crop this year, I was able to tag a nice fat little buck using the Model 94, .32 Win. Spcl that my dad bought back in 1943. My oldest brother inherited it when Dad passed away in 1969 when I was 7 years old. Brother has lived in Alaska since 1993 and has not used it. This year he in turn handed it down to me. It's the first deer that rifle has shot in over 20 years.

I'm sorry to hear that. I wish I could make it so no parent had to go through that. I guess I am not in the place to do that though.
