Stopped by Haucks Powersport yesterday. Ask about this bulletin as my Queens Kodi was using about 2oz of oil per 150-200 miles recently in S. Dakota. We were riding around 100-150 miles per day.

Was told that it is not a cut and dry fix just because the machine is listed.
They (dealer) will need tear down the machine, take pictures of the possible problem parts then send the pictures along with a report to Yamaha. The chance of being turned down is there if they see any damage related poor maintenance.
If Yamaha turns down the claim the owner will have to pay for the dealers work.

It will take about 2 weeks as the dealers will only receive the updated rebuild kits as each claim is approved.

All seems fair to me. Will be taking in her Kodi the end of October when our season is almost over.

Had 10500 just before SD.
Ride about 915 miles out there. So around 11500

No lawsuit.
If the machine meets a certain criteria the fix is free.

Apparently it doesn't matter. I found our Kodi model number and it was approved and was repaired no charge.

Anybody have a video of a cold start smoker? And does anybody know where the problem engines or parts came from?
There are hundreds if not thousand of posts about the 708. As it turned out Yamaha bought out Robin small engine manufacturing from Subaru. The 708 was supposedly manufactured in one of the Robin factories. Besides the valve seal issue one of the piston rings was faulty causing big scores in the jug. Considering today's global market. Finding out when and were any thing was made would be a crap shoot or maybe Chute.

My Queens 708 is a very good runner. She is much nicer than I am. Hers has plenty of zip even with the 30g's in the CVT. The 708 has more clatter. I think because of the twin cams.
