While at my dealer today I asked them how many of the 708’s they had seen with the oil consumption problem and the service manager told me none. He said they sold hundreds of the 700 Grizzlies & Kodiaks during those years and none have had any oil issues but they are aware of the service bulletin for it.

You can tell the stealerships are lying when they move their mouth. He isn't going to say .... sure I've had dozens of complaints about the crappy engines I sold my customers. They don't have any incentive to warranty these bikes even with the letter they will avoid as many repairs as possible because the work is labor intensive and Yamaha won't pay them even close to what they would charge a customer for this kind of work which is pretty much a complete engine rebuild.
