Love the mountains, live on the prairie

Hey guys!

I bought my '15 Grizz (blue 700) a week after the 16's were released. Located in central ND.

So far gravel roads and section lines are my playground - in my parents neighborhood. My father and I have used it for plowing, pulling sprayers, utility trailers loaded with everything from large tools to piles of wood. The machine handles everything we've thrown at it maybe a little too well..

Problems/issues encountered:

1 & 2. Axle seals - rear pinion and left shaft. They were replaced under warranty (200 miles) - and then a second time (under 300 miles) each due to dealership installation error. I understand the warranty - all good in my book.

3. Front axle pinion seal is seeping some (1200 miles).. not enough to be overly concerned at this point.

Mods so far:

Tera35 up front
Warn plow setup
Tamarack boxes front and rear (haven't been installed - will for a trip)
Optimate and sprayer wired quick connector
Yamaha 2" receiver
Kolpin gas mount
Kolpin rear mirror

Plans:

Sheave/slug/spring/weights - trying to determine the magical brew..
Skids - riccochet?
Tires (27)/wheels
many more miles and smiles

I'm looking forward to finally contributing and asking questions!

Welcome to GC.
Welcome to GC from Maine! Sounds like a great mix of work and fun. Great intro, by the way.
Hey...nd_mountain_man...Welcome to GC from Wisconsin.

I do love riding in the Black Hills! Coming out next September for sure. Just this morning I was thinking that we should go out there in the spring also.

The front drive shaft leak is common even if you don't use 4WD When you replace it look for grooves on the coupler. You may need to get a speedi-sleeve to cover the grooves.

Welcome 2 GC.
Welcome to GC from TN. sounds like a nice list of money to spend
Welcome from Nebraska! - The state where you go elsewhere to ride 'cause it doesn't exist much here!:wink2:
Wecome from Colorado, just got back tonight from a fire in SD ( Custer State Park), so kind of close and have been on a few fires in the Black Hills. The one thing that sticks out is that talcum powder dust, just terrible at times so watch the air filter. Lots of trails all over that place.

@Fireman2, be careful out there, and thanks. I was a volunteer fireman for a few years here in my tiny town until my work commitments made it impractical. It's not easy, whether it's volunteer in a little village, or full time in a city, and everything in between.

@TGrizzly2014, really not much for trails in Nebraska? I'm surprised I have to say. I've never been there, but I just kinda figured that with all the farm land that there must be access roads, trails, etc. Just goes to show how much I know, LOL!!! Or, are you hogwashing us with the winky face, LOL?
There's some terain. Not a whole lot though.

That's true, Grizzcrazy, but you have to travel to the western part to use it....The forest at Halsey is nice but limited for ATV use now. Lot's of SXS's now because they widened the Dismal Trail, to the chagrin of ATV users. With 100K acres of forest there, they could have made SXS specific trails in another area IMHO. Instead they blew the money on a new visitor center/ office and took out the swimming pool. Less now for families to do there. Other than Halsey, you have to know someone to ride on their ground...

Yes. Of course, I see the fun stuff since I could basically flip flop saying I live in Nebraska or Wyoming.
Thanks guys! Definitely havent spent the time in the black hills that I intended.. maybe next year I will fix that.
Nice intro and welcome to GC. Listen to the mountains when they call.

Hey reogem, where do you ride in the Black Hills? I spent a few days there with the wife a couple years ago and I love the area. Would love to go back.
