Never be in a hurry to buy!

Hello. I thought I would say hello and share my buying experience with other newbs/potential buyers. I purchased an 08 grizzly (non eps:crying:) with about 2000 miles on it :)smile2:) on 11/02/17. We were going to buy a new machine but could not afford a new one. We wanted one for plowing our 400 ft driveway in MT. It was right before the storm hit and I was in a hurry. I had been shocked to find that people wanted $5000 or more for 10 year old machines with 5K miles on them. Of course, most of the one's I was shopping for had plows. After purchasing one and putting a plow on it, I understand why people are asking so much. I paid the dealer to do it and the guy took care of me with excellent customer service (a rare thing in NW MT) and pretty decent prices for a dealership. Still... ouch. Pretty sure I was charged a bit extra for idiot tax for waiting until the last minute.

I didn't have the time or foresight to find a forum and ask what to look for like others did. The lady I bought it from said it had EPS because it was her machine and was easy to steer. Upon driving 2 hrs to look at it I realized it doesn't but I was in a hurry and under a lot of pressure to buy something. I got her to knock off about $350 off the price. At least it has low miles? Doesn't appear to have been beat. Has a few mechanical problems that I didn't notice that I should have and probably could have gotten another 200-300 bucks knocked off.

Anyways, moral of the story is plan ahead, hound your wife to get her on board well in advance, ask questions, and be willing to walk away even if you invest 2 hrs of horrible ice covered roads. I actually like the machine and even with ALOT of idiot tax (I've only told you a fraction of the story) I came out OK considering all things. Some may even say I got a decent deal. Nobody would say I got a great deal and I didn't get the EPS that I wanted. Honestly I wish I would have walked away and pursued an 07 700/750? Kingquad that had a windshield, mirrors, hand guards, winch and plow for the same price and a few more miles. I think I would have had a better set up for less money since I didn't end up with EPS anyways.

Now that I'm done complaining, I am glad to have found this site and am happy to have my first ATV and a way to plow my driveway! I'll be trying it out tomorrow.

Welcome to the site and you will be happy with a Grizzly. Now, whenever I plan on purchasing anything of higher cost/value, I always start researching the item months in advance, whether it be an atv, mower truck or car. I bought my used Grizz last fall, after much reading and comparing many models and brands. I found that IRS and EPS were favorable to have. As one grows older these options are a must lol...Though after having my Grizz for a year now, will few miles put on it by me, I am extremely happy with it.

Welcome to GC from Maine. That should be a good machine for you. The EPS is real nice, but not essential. True, being in a rush always costs more, no matter what. Check out the threads on stator replacement and upgrades on this forum for the 07-08 Grizzly's. But most of all, have fun with it!
Welcome to GC.

Enjoy your new ride. As you mentioned about there being a few issues with your specific Grizz you purchased, a lot of members on this site are more than willing to try and help out with pointing you in the right direction getting those issue resolved. Feel free to start asking away so you can get your machine buttoned up and are happy with it.

Then there are mods to help make the machine better than OEM. Lots of really good info in the GC FAQ too.
Welcome 2 GC, enjoy the griz.
