G'day all. When I carry my Kodiak around in a trailer I'm pretty fussy about it being tied down to reduce movement. I know, however, that it's still going to rock back and forth a bit. I've been leaving it in "Park" but it occurred to me I may be placing some strain on the mechanism as opposed to leaving it in neutral. I'm not familiar with the park lock system on the Kodiak and I don't want to bugger anything up. Any thoughts on best practice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, John.

Many locations, DOT require a vehicle in transport to be in park in order to considered a secure load

If you strap down over the tires, not the frame your bike won't move at all and straps don't loosen up due to movement.

These don't have a park brake, thus his question.
Using tire bonnets keeps the tires from rolling. I'll hauled trucks 1000's of miles using these without rocking or transmission damage.

@Roughas The parking mechanism is pretty stout on this machines. Trailering in park will do NO damage.

use the parking break when it is on the trailer or being moved.this will decress the stress on the drive train while u are transporting it.
No parking brake on these machines.
Also if the drivetrain could be damaged trailering, strapped down in park, I doubt that the drive train could hold up even on the easiest trails in the world. In fact it may blow just loading on the trailer or pickup.

Being in park on a trailer is probably much less stress than putting it in park on a steep hill, so I wouldn't worry.

X2 on strapping machine down while in neutral, after it’s completely secured then I shift into park. Apply parking brake if available.

Also if your bike is secured properly there really should be any “wiggle” or movement at all.

Pretty sure Yamaha's engineers are smart enough to know what works. Pretty sure that if leaving it in park When trailering or parked on an inpline, they would have installed a park break.
Exactly as Ridgeway said, mines parked on an inline all the time left in park went out on the trails and I trailer it almost 1700 km one way when going on vacation it's in park the whole time has never ever hurt it.
