I blew my rear on 2011 700 and just received my new one. Thought it was a sealed unit. I filled it with gear oil which leaked out where the axles would go in. I assume it's the axle cup that presses against the rubber seal on rear diff that holds the oil in? Can someone confirm this. Don't feel like spending another 500 bucks...

The axel stubs ride in a seal where they go into the diff. Install everything and fill the diff last.

Welcome from Colorado.
X-2 on fill the final drive last.
The axle seals need the axles installed to seal.
At rest, the 'full' fluid level in the final drive is higher than the bottom of the axle when installed. If you pull an axle when the final drive is full and the bike is level, fluid will come over the seal.

Oh, and I always lube the axles where they ride the seals before assembly. WD 40 or somthing is fine, diff oil works too. Just smear.some on the seal and the axle stub, helps you not tear the seal.
