I am trying to remove the pinion bearing (the one that is contained in the pinion housing, not the smaller bearing inside the diff itself). I have to remove the "bearing retainer" from the pinion housing, which is a nut with threads on the outside, requiring a special tool to remove. I will simply try a punch and hammer, but does anybody know if this is a left-hand-threaded nut? Also, does the new yamaha replacement bearing have to be packed with grease or does the diff fluid provide the lubricant during operation?
Thanks.

I have always put grease on a new seal no real need to pack it.

It is left hand thread, just use hammer and punch. Wasnt too tight at all. I usually put a little grease in just for start up. Can also use vasoline, has a very low melting point. Put never seize on threads of adjuster, disssimiliar metals could corrode
