was this the first time the oil filter has been off? make sure the new filter that there is oil on the rubber seal, a coating of oil on the new oil filter seal will make it come off alot easier, I dont think they put oil on the factory oil filter, it is a real pain to get off.
My 700'6 was hard to get off as well. I used an old trick i learned working at goodyear take a long screwdriver or punch and tap it through the filter to break the seal.
